Exclusive Interview: Kranium Talks Inspiration, Success, and ‘Gal Policy’s’ U.K. Silver Certification

Kranium‘s song “Gal Policy” has been certified Silver in the United Kingdom by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI), marking the achievement of selling over 200,000 units in the UK. The song was originally released in March 2020 and was produced by Jahvy Ambassador on the Soul Survivor Riddim.

It gained further attention with a remix featuring Nigerian singer-songwriter Tiwa Savage. Kranium’s biggest hit, “Nobody Has To Know,” earned a Gold certification in the United States and is certified Platinum in Canada. Kranium expressed his approach to music as creating “creepers” that take time to gain traction, especially in the United States before spreading to other markets.

Despite eyebrow-raising lyrics in “Gal Policy,” Kranium explained they were included to cater to modern consumer preferences. The official video for the song has garnered 1.6 million views on YouTube, while the lyric video has surpassed 50 million views. With more than 750 million streams on Spotify across his catalog Kranium talks exclusively with WMV about the making of “Gal Policy” and his other career successes.

Congratulations on “Gal Policy” going Gold in the UK! Can you tell us about the inspiration behind the song and its success?

I wouldn’t consider it having much inspiration I just went in that booth and create rules base on what it would be in a perfect world.

How does it feel to have your music recognized and celebrated in the UK with a Gold certification?

It feels amazing to know that your hard work is paying off and during a time when the world is falling apart. It shows how much people do love dancehall and how much love and support the U.K. has for me

What inspired you to create this particular sound for the track?

I just went in the booth and let the riddim lead and just sang what came to my mine.

Could you share any memorable moments or stories from the making of the song or its journey to Gold certification?

Memorable moment about the song is watching the world on lockdown singing it loud as ever at silent illegal parties at the time that’s when I knew this song gone.

What message or emotions were you hoping to convey to your listeners through “Gal Policy”?

The message I wanted to send is make right choices be smart on how u do things cheating is a act of weakness but with discipline you can make it easer than hurting someone feelings.

What do you think sets “Gal Policy” apart from your other songs, making it such a hit in the UK?

I don’t think much was set apart I just think Kranium is being Kranium and saying things that Kranium fans truly love and it cover with Great Melodie’s and constant pockets.

How has the support and reaction from your fans in the UK influenced your music career?

The support is what makes me continue going and the uk has always showed me love from I enter the game and I loved and always pull up just to connect and keep my my vibe with them.

Can we expect more music with a similar vibe to “Gal Policy” in the future, or are you planning to explore different musical directions?

I don’t plan music I just create music and make the people decide on that part I will say tho I always make sure it’s quality.

Could you describe the creative process behind the song, from writing the lyrics to recording and producing the track?

My process is dropping a bunch of Melodie’s to the beat and pick the hook the verse and whatever parts I think of the melody fit for intros and stuff like that.

Lastly, what’s next for Kranium after the success of “Gal Policy”?

Next is to continue create and let my brain do what it does which is thinking outside the box.

Any upcoming projects or collaborations you can share with your fans?

I don’t really have no long term goal, I do everything to the best of my ability and whatever comes with that I accept because I know I did my best.
