Dancehall superstar Sean Paul has responded to Atlanta rapper Lil Yachty’s recent statements on his podcast A Safe Space where he explicitly dissed the Dutty Cup artist by saying, “By the way, I don’t f*ck with Sean Paul. I want to make that very clear. Sean Paul once dissed me in a radio interview.”
Upon hearing Yachty’s abrasive statement via World Music Views®, the Grammy winning maker responded, “People love to start shxt where there ain’t no toilet. This is a perfect example of that,” implying that he never had any beef with the Poland rapper.
Yachty’s beef however dates back to 2016 when Sean Paul did his first interview on The Breakfast Club, with Charlamage The God, DJ Envy and Angela Yet where Sean Paul singled out Lil Yachty at the prompting of Charlamagne while criticizing younger rappers at the time. This incident occurred shortly after Yachty faced backlash for saying he “couldn’t name five songs” by 2Pac and Biggie.
Sean Paul, referring to the new generation of rappers, said, “If it was really about talent in the Hip Hop industry, you wouldn’t have some of these younger cats talking that. The Lil Yachty dem. The boat boy. I mean, I don’t know much of the dude’s music either. I don’t like his comments. Those are artists I revere. I understand that probably kids don’t care about writing right now. I understand they don’t know where Hip Hop started…”
Yachty posted a clip of his podcast episode titled “The Art Of Hate” with the caption “my new podcast is live everywhere @asafeplacepod . every other weds new episodes at 5:30/8:30 est. On Spotify, apple, YouTube, wherever u listen to your podcast at. Go listen to us be ignorant!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
His post drew comments from several artist including former Roc Nation artist Justin Skye who comment “LMAO.” Another comment stated, “Sean Paul has 34 million monthly listeners on Spotify . He will forever be relevant” as a response to Yachty saying Sean Paul has not released music.
Sean’s Manager Steve Urchin also commented under World Music Views instagram post after seeing Jamaicans come to the defense of his client by saying, “One thing bout us Yardies… don’t come for us. Cuz the whole a we a go dun u bc.”
Urchin also told WMV, “My only other comment would be “I just went on Spotify and I find it interesting that someone with 11 m monthly listeners thinks that someone with 38 m monthly listeners has stopped dropping music or “fallen off.”
While Sean may have dismissed the Yachty’s sentiments as nothing, the QC rapper who is closely affiliated with global superstar Drake has since accumulated 8 billion career streams on Spotify and he seem to have been hurt by the statement made by the legendary dancehall artist seven years later.
