Jamaican Dancehall artist Shenseea officially departs Interscope Records, according to sources close to the matter. The 28-year-old singer originally signed with the label in 2019 through a partnership with Rvssian’s Rich Immigrants Records, following the success of her breakout single “Loodi” with Vybz Kartel.
Her first release under Interscope, “Blessed” featuring Tyga, became a hit, earning Gold certification in Canada for surpassing 40,000 sales and streams. The song also charted on the Rhythmic Audience and Airplay charts, cementing her position as a rising global star.
The two time Grammy nominated singer offloaded a series of cryptic tweets recently saying, “Stop blocking your blessings by holding on to people you know you should let go.”
She followed up with “I’m so at peace with everything these days… It is what it is type energy.” Her social media bio which had her label affiliations now only list her new booking info.
Shenseea is the only female Jamaican artist to release two albums under a major label in the last 10 years and as moves forward, sources indicate that she is close to signing a new record deal in her pursuit of international success.
Chart Performance & Milestones
Shenseea’s debut album, “Alpha” (released March 11, 2022), became the best-selling Dancehall album of that year, moving over 60,000 units globally, according to Luminate. It debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard Reggae Albums Chartand No. 3 on the Heatseekers Albums Chart, selling 4,900 units in its first week, with continued streaming success.
Among Dancehall albums released in the last five years, Alpha has outperformed projects by Popcaan, Masicka, Spice, Vybz Kartel, and Sean Paul, with Koffee’s “Gifted” (250,000 sales & streams in the U.S.) being the only other Jamaican album to surpass it.
Her international collaborations include songs with Kanye West, Wizkid, Megan Thee Stallion, Chainsmokers, Fireboy DML, Chris Brown, Calvin Harris and Charlie Puth and more.
Her sophomore album, “Never Gets Late Here”, dropped on May 24, 2024, debuting at No. 4 on the Billboard Reggae Albums Chart with 2,000 first-week sales. To support the release, Shenseea embarked on her first solo North American headlining tour, promoted by Live Nation and WME (William Morris Endeavor).
Billboard 200 Aspirations
Despite her success, Shenseea has yet to enter the Billboard 200, a feat no Jamaican female artist has achieved since Tessanne Chin’s “Count On My Love” peaked at No. 41 in 2014.
In an exclusive interview with World Music Views, she expressed her excitement at the possibility, saying, “That would be amazing.”
Over the years, only a few Jamaican women—Millie Small, Grace Jones, Patra, and Diana King—have made the prestigious chart. With a growing U.S. fanbase and collaborations with top producers like London On Da Track, Stargate, and Wizkid, Shenseea hopes to break new ground with her next move.
