Grammy winning reggae artist Koffee‘s debut album ‘Gifted’ has re-entered the U.S. Billboard Reggae Albums chart this week at No. 9. ‘Gifted’ is the best selling reggae project released this year and spawns the singles “Pull Up” and “Lockdown”. The album peaked at No. 2 on the chart in the week of April 5 with 3500 units.
According to data provided to WMV by Billboard sales trackers Luminate the album has so far clocked more than 223,000 album equivalent units(with SEA, and with TEA). This includes pure album sales of 1,600 (equalling total on-demand streams (audio + video) of 340 million).
The Columbia records release also debuted at number 9 on the UK top 100 albums chart and landed at number 5 on the UK physical albums chart giving Koffee the distinction of being the first female Jamaican to make the UK albums chart top ten.
Other women of Jamaican descent to have climbed the UK albums chart are Stefflon Don and Diana King.
Stefflon’s 2018 EP ‘Secure’ peaked at 35 and Diana King’s 1995 album Tougher Than Love peaked at number 50 on the top 100 chart.
Since Koffee came on the scene she has gotten a lot of label support. After winning the Grammy for Best Reggae Album in 2020, John Fleckenstein, co-president of RCA said to Rolling Stones “Koffee’s success continues, it’s not gonna end in Jamaica. It’s gonna end on a global level.”
Gifted also landed at No. 11 on the Billboard Heatseekers Albums chart, which ranks the sales by new and developing musical recording artists each week.
The UK’s Top 100 biggest artist albums of the week is compiled by the Official Charts Company, based on sales of CDs, downloads, vinyl and weighted audio streams.
Another re-entry on the US Billboard chart this week is Sean Paul’s breakout album Dutty Rock. The No. 1 album spends a total of 188 weeks on the chart.
Legend: The Best Of Bob Marley & The Wailers is at No. 1, Best Of Shaggy: Boombastic Collection at No. 2, Sean Paul’s Dutty Classics Collection sits at No. 3, Wisdom, World On Fire and Set In Stone by Stick Figure 4,6, and No. 8 respectively. UB40’s Greatest Hits at No. 5, and Rebelution’s Live At The Red Rocks moves down to No. 10.
