Grace Jones, 76, Dazzles at Halifax Piece Hall: Dating Sarah Douglas and Hula Hooping for 20 Minutes On Stage

Jamaican fashion icon and musician Grace Jones performed at the 66,000 square-foot courtyard at Halifax Piece Hall in West Yorkshire UK last evening (June 2022) as part of the Live at the Piece Hall series in the summer of 2024.

Jones, 76, took to the stage wearing a full black pant suit  interchanging her top hat and making several face mask changes.

In the middle of the set Jones had a percussion solo where the slammed a pair of drumsticks on the hi-hats and cymbals destroying them in the process and turning it over.

With her distinct Jamaican accent, she stopped at intervals to engage the audience in and out of her various costumer changes incorporating transitions into the set like a true superstar with the audience loving ever moment.

She sang ‘Pull Up To My Number’ touching everyone in the front row and her UK Dance Club Chart topping hit ‘Slave To The Rhythm,’ with a Hula Hoop swinging around her waist for more than 20 minutes.

At the end of the show she introduced her girlfriend actress Sarah Douglas and shouted ‘Pride, you hear me’ as she exited the stage. The relationship between the two go back 40 years go when they starred in the 1984 movie Conan The Destroyer staring Arnold Schwarzenegger playing the characters Zula and Queen Taramis.

Dominque Zgarka, who was the first persons to sing Jones to a record deal told WMV that her performances never gets old, “She never gets old or dated, she is a true original with millions of fans of all ethnic backgrounds.”

“She is just like Lady Gaga or Freddy Mercury or even David Bowie, are / were true original, creative, talented, extravagant artists in the real sense of the word,” he added.

This year’s The Live at the Piece Hall Series will also feature Blondie, Sheryl Crow, Nile Rogers and Chic, Crowded House, Bryan Adams, Underworld, Rick Astley, Loyle Carner, Tom Jones, IDLES, Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, Richard Ashcroft, Jess Glynne, Korn, and more.

Last year Jones played at various festivals, including Cheshire’s Bluedot Festival and East Sussex’s Love Supreme. In 2022, she curated the Meltdown Festival, featuring artists like Peaches, Hot Chip, and Sky Ferreira. She was also featured on Beyonce’s ‘Renaissance’ track ‘MOVE’ which has surpassed sales of 500,000 in the US.
