Grammy Winner SOJA Misses Reggae Billboard Chart This Week, Koffee Slides To Number 3, Shenseea Lands at number 6

Shenseea, Koffee, SOJA

US based reggae group SOJA, did not make the Billboard top ten reggae albums chart this week despite beating all the nominees for best reggae album at the 64th annual Grammy awards.

The group sold an accumulated total of 1400 units across all of their albums last week, including the Grammy winning Beauty In The Silence, according to data provided to World Music Views by Luminate.

The Billboard Reggae chart ranks the ten most consumed reggae albums in the US, based on consumption metrics that are measured by sales tracker Luminate, formerly MRC Data in equivalent album units.  Each units is equal to one album sale or 10 individual tracks sold from an album or 3,750 ad-supported or 1,250 paid/subscription streams from an album via audio or video.

SOJA’s catalogue sold 300 pure copies compared to 100 total units the previous week.

Beauty In The Silence debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard Reggae Albums charts upon its release in 2021 and it also debuted at No. 34 on Billboard’s Current Albums Sales chart. It was No. 52 on Billboard’s Top Album Sales chart.

With over 14 albums, the group is the first American Reggae Rock group to win a Grammy for Best Reggae Album but the win has done little to boost their album sales. Compared to Koffee, who after winning the reggae Grammy in 2020, her Rapture Ep moved up 43 slots to number 1.

Gifted sold 200 copies this week, bringing her total US consumption since release to 6500. The album has fallen off the UK top albums chart where it debuted at number 9.

Shenseea is still holding on at No. 6 with her debut effort Alpha gaining an additional 1500 units. The album sold no pure copies but had 1,780,000 on demand streams. The dancehall princess also had reason to celebrate this week after World Music Views informed her of her first Canadian gold certification for the single Blessed featuring Tyga from the album. The single was certified gold on Monday, April 11, for selling 40,000 total units in Canada According to Music Canada.

Elsewhere on the chart Sean Paul has three top tens, Trinity and Dutty Rock at No. 8 and No. 9 with 1300 units each. Mad Love Prequel lands at number 10 with 1000 units.

Sean Paul, who lost the Grammy for best reggae album to SOJA has sold over 26 million records. He has also amassed Billions of streams on Spotify, Pandora, Apple Music and YouTube with hits like Cheap Thrills, Temperate and Rockabye. No Lie with Dua Lipa is on schedule to hit a billion streams in the coming weeks.

Stick Figure’s World On Fire and Set In Stone are at No. 5 and No. 7 respectively with 1500 units each.

UB40’s Greatest Hits sold 1600 to land at number 4 and Shaggy’s Boombastic Collection Best Of sold 2800 total units making it the number 2 album on the chart.
