Harbor Studios, a cherished recording space in Los Angeles, has been lost to the Palisades Fire. Known for its rich history and its role in shaping iconic music, the studio held a special place in the hearts of artists and music lovers alike. It was here that Nicki Minaj recorded parts of her highly anticipated album Pink Print Friday 2, adding another chapter to the studio’s illustrious legacy.
The announcement was made by Zach Brandon, the founder of Harbor Studios, who shared his emotional response to the loss. “I cried this morning, but not because Harbor burned down,” he wrote in an Instagram post. “I cried because it settled in with me that Harbor was taken from so many artists who cared so deeply about Harbor. It was a place of musical freedom… a sanctuary in the most literal sense of the word.”
A Storied History
Harbor Studios has been a cornerstone of the music community since the 1990s. It originally served as the recording studio for Joe Zawinul’s world-famous Jazz Fusion group, The Weather Report. In 2008, it transitioned into a home studio for esteemed film composer Paul Dinletir. Rapper Doja Cat also recorded her album “Scarlet 2 CLAUDE” at the Malibu studio.
CNN reports that the massive, fast-moving fires in Los Angeles County have claimed at least two lives, caused significant injuries, and forced tens of thousands to evacuate. The fires, which are 0% contained, have overwhelmed emergency workers battling multiple blazes.
The Palisades Fire, ranked as the most destructive in county history, has destroyed over 1,000 structures in the coastal area between Malibu and Santa Monica. Meanwhile, the Eaton Fire in Altadena has grown to 10,000 acres, threatening approximately 13,000 buildings.
Emergency response teams are stretched thin, with the LA County Fire Department admitting they were unprepared for the simultaneous outbreak of four major fires. Intense winds have worsened the situation, temporarily grounding firefighting aircraft and leaving hydrants in the Pacific Palisades neighborhood dry overnight.
