Chronixx’s debut album Chronology was released six years ago. The Soul Circle project was distributed by Virgin EMI Records and debuted at No. 1 on the US Billboard Reggae Albums Chart where it spent two weeks at the top. Chronology also spent five weeks on the Sweedish albums chart where it peaked at No. 21.
Since ints July 7, 2017 release the album has sold 100,000 album equivalent units in sales and streams. Of that amount 17,000 are pure copies and 134 million in streams according to data received by World Music Views® from Billboard sales trackers Luminate.
The 16 track album spawned the singles “Skankin Sweet,” “Smile Jamaica,” “I Can,” “Likes,” and “Majesty”
The most streamed single from the album on Spotify is Skankin Sweet with 32,423,539 streams as of July 7, 2023.
Chronixx, touted as the Reggae Revival front runner has been on a musical hiatus, only dropping music sparsely and without much promotion.
The Spanish Town singer quietly released “Never Give Up” in April 2022 after months of speculations and promising new music and even cancelling his New York show in December 2021.
Daddi Barnz Chronixx former manager told World Music Views, the wait is almost over as Chronixx is currently putting on final touches to his new music.
“Chronixx is currently off the touring grid composing music for his upcoming rereleases. 2017 was his last project and he is actually finalizing to get his new body of work out soon”, he said.
Barnz and Chronixx has since parted ways as artist and manager.
Chronixx, real name Jamar McNaughton’s unprecedented rise to the top of the reggae/dancehall scene came after the release of his collaborative mixtape with Major Lazer-“Start a Fire” in 2013.
Even before releasing an album he scored a performance on the Jimmy Fallon show and pulled a huge crowd at a Central Park concert. Subsequently the his Dread and Terrible EP reached number one on the Billboard Digital Reggae Singles chart according to MRC Data. The EP spent 42 consecutive weeks in the top 10 of the Top Reggae Albums chart.
He recently made appearances in the U.K. after showing his face at Grammy nominated singer Protoje’s Lost In Time Festival last February. The Who Knows singer was one of the surprise guest acts at the inaugural event.
“Yo, the man Dem rise me up,” Chronixx uttered after his opening performance of Dela Splash. With fans delighted to see him at times forgetting his own lyrics, he took turns singing the lyrics of Popcaan who was another special guest at the event.
“All a dis come in like is a dream,” he said again before going into his second song, a lesser known reggae bop Eternal Light with Free Nationals reminding fans why they missed his soulful renditions.
