Jah Rockaz, the group, founded bandleader Obrian Williams, is carving out its own space in the reggae landscape, blending spiritual connection, authenticity, and musical exploration.
“Jah Rockaz was born out of a shared vision between myself and our band leader, Obrian,” says Christopher Campbell aka Chris Rockaz, the lead singer of the band. “Our long-standing friendship and shared passion for music made this collaboration natural. Our unique sound comes from our spiritual connection with the Most High and our deep love for the raw, authentic sounds of reggae.”
While the reggae scene continues to shift, Jah Rockaz remains committed to their audience. “We always stay connected to our audience’s lifestyles, and our sound reflects that,” Chris explains. “We aim to provide the style of music that our fans are seeking.”
Their debut single, Reggae Is Healing, holds deep significance for the band. “It’s a powerful feeling to be able to connect with our audience through positive melodies and words,” The 37 year old Campbell says.
The band’s approach to reggae is rooted in tradition but embraces innovation. “To honor reggae’s cultural roots while bringing freshness to the genre, we believe in musical exploration. Music, to me, has no rules,” Chris states. “If Bob Marley were still alive today, I think he’d be making an album inspired by blues and soul.”
Jah Rockaz draws inspiration from a wide range of artists. “Bruno Mars, Morgan Heritage, Third World, and, of course, Bob Marley, have greatly shaped our approach to performing and recording,” Chris reveals.
The band has been making waves across the United States, performing in various cities and sharing the stage with other talented musicians. “Performing in different cities in the U.S. has been amazing, and yes, there are other bands like ours,” Chris notes. “We always appreciate musicians from all types of backgrounds spreading the roots and culture of our music.”
Like any musical journey, theirs has had its share of obstacles. “We’ve undoubtedly faced some challenges, but we’ve always risen above them by sticking together as a team and staying true to our art,” Chris affirms.
Looking ahead, Jah Rockaz has exciting projects on the horizon. “There are big things in the pipeline for Jah Rockaz,” Chris teases. “We don’t want to spoil the surprise, but we’ll definitely be releasing more soulful music for our fans to enjoy.”
