Ishawna And Ed Sheeran “Brace It” With Dancehall Collab

Ishawna’s Brace It featuring Ed Sheeran is finally here with some familiar sounds remunicient of the 90s Dave Kelly “Showtime” era. Some of the modules used on the beat are also close to the intro on Tony Kelly’s “Buy Out” Riddim. There is even a “Hear this” which was ad adlib made popular in the 80s/90s by Ishawna’s Downsound Records former label mate Ninja Man who is now incarcerated.

The groovy 90s inspired modern dancehall beat is made by reggae hitmaker Don Corleone and the song is produced by Corleone, Skatta Burrel and Ishawna.

The Only Fans singer and Sheeran match each other’s seductive energy back and forth as they suggestivley say what they want to do to each other in nuanced dancehall lingua. The 3 minute long mix of pop and dancehall allows both artists to stay true to their individual sounds and neither seem to be out of their bounds.

“Me good up, bwoy come wine pon me good up, slide and wine pon me good up,” Ishawna sings and Sheeran responds with “Brace It Brace It pon me.”

“Picture you inah me bed boy,” Ishawna courts his imagination.

“I nah go I nah I nah go leave you never, I nah i nah i nah go diss you ever,” both artists sing on the chorus. They also fill each other’s ad libs and harmonies.

The highly anticipated dancehall song comes on the heels of Sheeran winning a million dollar lawsuit but the song has been in the works since he fell in love with Ishawna’s “Equal Rights”, a remix of his “Shape Of You” last year.

Ishawna used the popular track from “Shape Of You” to spit dancehall lyrics about reciprocating oral sex. A topic which is considered taboo in some sections of dancehall culture.

Sheeran told Qmusic Nederland, “There are so many remixes of it, I was in the Caribbean, and I heard like a totally different song, It is really really filthy, but she is just singing about her man going down on her,” he said candidly.

Their affinity for each other’s music manifested into a collaboration Last November, when Ishawna broke the news that she would be recording a new song with the Bam pop star.

Sheeran also shared that he recorded his verse with Ishawna for a new song which turns out to be Brace It. The just in time for summer bop released by Ishawna’s Legendary records is produced by reggae-dancehall hit makers Don Corleone and Skatta Burrel who are no strangers to making both local and international hits.

Skatta Burrel posted on instagram, “Great honor to be one of the Producers on this song and thanks to all the players who gave their talents to make this possible.”

About the lifeline collab, Ishawna posted on Instagram, “These kind of things don’t happen everyday because it’s special.

Don’t even bother trying to figure it out, just emBRACE IT 😉😬.”

“@teddysphotos THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING! I know I’ve told you this many times but I will NEVER stop so just BRACE yourself😭You’re the purest soul I’ve ever known. I love and appreciate you so much and I’m so honored to be apart of your journey❤️,” she continued.

She underscores her excitement and thanks her fans.

Brace It is also the name of another sexually explicit dancehall track by Projexx featuring Konshens released by Warner Music just six weeks ago. Projexx’s song has just over 35,000 YouTube streams.

Red Fox 2013 song, on the DJ Norie Presents da Stage Riddim and soca artist Gemma also have songs with the same name.

None of their songs moved the needle on the charts, Projexx song is currently at 182 on the reggae iTunes chart. Between Ms. Legendary’s almost 1.5 million social media followers and Sheeran’s global appeal, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see their rendition of Brace It hit the U.K and US charts next week.

The recent series of events for Ishawna is a far cry from the reception she received from some people in the Jamaican music industry including Bounty Killer who posted threats against her, with a warning not to sing her “Equal Rights” song at a concert they were both billed to perform.

Never one to back down, Ishawna responded to his threats with “Bring it on Rodney” on an Instagram post. She went on to perform the song in his presence at the event in Portland Jamaica to massive approval from the crowd.

During his performance at the show Bounty Killer said, “Weh the clean mouth gal dem deh now, me heard some a unuh a sing some sumn” before launching into a tirade performance.

Other artists billed for the show refused to share the same mic whenever she was booked for a show.

Sheeran, who has been accused of cultural appropriation by a New Zealand music critic, said he is aware of the love he gets from Jamaican artists. To return the love he sang a couple in patois from some of the remixes he has heard of “Shape Of You” during an interview.

“..You have the best Pu**y, you know mi like to f*ckin spontaneous..” he sings.
