Nigeria and Jamaica’s finest, Burna Boy and Sean Paul showed respect to each other during Sean Paul’s set at the Reggae Lake Festival in Amsterdam on Sunday. The two days event which also featured Burnin Spear, Elephant Man, Joggo, Maikal X, and Koffee, and Morgan Heritage on Saturday was headlined by the Dutty Cup dancehall veteran Sunday along with Black Uhuru, Collie Buddz, Gentleman, Rootz Riders and Max Romeo.
one of the highlights of Sean Paul’s set for the audience was when he brought our Burna Boy was who side stage smoking and observing the Scorcha artist deliver a high frequency set.
Sean upon spotting Burna said, “You know right inside the place we got the man right here we got the man name Mr. Burna Boy.” The African Giant then did a bop and walked across the stage to the beat of his Last Last as which caused the crowd to erupt frantically.
He smiled with a glistening set of white teeth as Sean joined him in embrace and told the crowd, “I wanna take a shot to celebrate life with ya’ll you know we live and living,” Sean said.
He then repeated “respect due” several times.
It is not yet known wether the two hitmakers will be making new music together but Burna’s hit Secret featuring Serani originally had Sean Paul as a feature. Back in May Serani told World Music Views that the song was released without Sean’s verse and said Burna would only do the song if he could own the masters.
Serani said it was a business decision to add Burna to the song and sell the masters even thought he is yet to perform the fire starter track with Burna Boy who is currently doing sold out shows all over the world. He says he believes the success of the song will benefit him in the long run.
“That song came about, I was just in my driveway sitting on the front of my truck and this beat was playing in the background, for the first time i have a hit song that I never make the beat, like a big hit you nuh. So I am there just listening to the track and I thought about another song that I have named Secret before,” he told World Music Views
“So I say I want to do a better secret song, cause I made the attempt at the concept before and looking back I say I can do better. I got the melody and the words right there and then, I wrote three verses, not knowing that the song was that good until I recorded it. When I recorded it now I was like ‘gaalee’, that’s fire, I knew right there and then I told my manager that’s the best song that I have unreleased. I knew, I could tell. A hit is just a hit you can’t fight it you can’t force it. Right away I told him that’s the best song I have.”
His manager, Julian Jones Griffiths, was who took the song to Burna Boy’s team.
