The Spanish reggae fusion track “Celebration” by Maffio, Farruko, Akon featuring Ky-Mani Marley has been certified Latin Gold by the Recording Industry Association Of America (RIAA). The Spanish reggae song released October 4, 2019 has surpassed sales of 30,000 units in the U.S.
The Maffio and Jarop music video has surpassed 42 million views on YouTube. It is Ky-Mani’s first U.S. Latin certification.
Composer, singer-songwriter Maffio’s previous single “Cristina” has been certified Double Platinum in Spain, US Latin(Gold), and in Peru (Gold).
“Celebration”, is a message song of hope that invites everyone to celebrate life by enjoying each moment. Maffio said the song is a dedication to his sister who died a few years ago. He said when he got the beat and sent to Akon and Farruko,they immediately began to write and recorded the same day but he got Ky-Mani Marley to record a month later “I needed them to be all three because it seems an incredible combination of talents,” said Maffio in his antic Spanish language.
Ky-Mani’s other latin song, Chillax released six years ago with Farruko is certified Latin 6x Platinum in the U.S. by the RIAA. The music video for that song has surpassed 800 million views on YouTube.
Incidentally, 5 months ago Maffio released another Ky-Mani Marley collab which featured Julian Marley, and their nephew Jo Mersa Marley who died suddenly at age 31 last December.
Maffio expressed condolences to the young Marley upon hearing news of his death on Instagram.
It also seems Maffio will be doing more work with Jamaican artist as he visited Buju Banton a few weeks ago and posted a picture of him and the Gargamel sitting in his studio yard with the caption:
“Love and much respect to the General. The legendary @bujubanton Thank you for love always. Future is incredible!”
