Jason Mraz ‘I’m Yours’ Becomes The Most Certified Reggae Song Of All Time In The US: 13x Platinum

Virginia based reggae singer Jason Mraz‘ “I’m Yours” {Atlantic Records} is now certified 13x Platinum by the Recording Industry Association Of America (RIAA). The song released February 12, 2008 earned the milestone by surpassing 13 million units of streams and sales as of August 10, 2023. “I’m Yours” is the lead single from his album “We Sing. We Dance. We Steal Things,” and esxtends its lead as Mraz’ most certified single in the US.

The reggae pop song produced by Martin Terefe was Initially featured on the limited edition EP “Extra Credit” in 2005 to promote his album “Mr. A–Z,” the song gained popularity after being performed in his concerts. It was nominated for Song of the Year and Best Male Pop Vocal Performance at the 51st Grammy Awards.

“I’m Yours” now becomes the most certified reggae song of all time in the US.

The song’s commercial success is underscored by a peak at number 6 on the Billboard Hot 100 and spending a record-breaking 76 weeks on the chart. With 13 million units of streams and sales in the US it ranks as one of the top-selling digital songs of all time.

In July 2021, the song which blends reggae with folk-pop, soft rock, Jawaiian, and surf pop earned 1 billion streams on Spotify and currently has 1.6 billion on the platform. It is the singer’s first song to reach that milestone.  Billboard ranked the American singer at No. 7 on the 2021 Billboard Reggae Year End Artist Albums chart.

Mraz, 46, didn’t release an album that year but his 2020 project “Look For The Good” peaked at No. 2 on 7/4/20 and spent 31 weeks on the Billboard Reggae Albums Chart. It landed at No. 11 on the Billboard Year-End Reggae albums chart.

Remixed versions of the song features Lil Wayne and Jah Cure and a “Bass Over Babylon Remix.”

“I’m Yours” got Jason nominated for Song of the Year and Best Male Pop Vocal Performance at the 51st Grammy Awards.

The official music video directed by Darren Doane with scenes of Hawaii has surpassed 745 million views on YouTube.

 

Jason’s third studio album “We Sing. We Dance. We Steal Things,” {Atlantic- 2008} and his single “Lucky” with Colbie Caillat were also certified 4x Multi-Platinum August 10 for selling 4,000,000 album equivalent and single equivalent units respectively.

Jason announced a Deluxe version of the album scheduled for release September 22 this year. The album will be available in limited physical form of 3 LP sets, 2 CD sets, and on digital platforms via Atlantic/Rhino.

Currently on his ‘Mystical Magical Rhythmical Radical Ride Tour,’ Mraz will perform a free show presented in association with the San Diego Symphony at The Rady Shell at Jacobs Park on Wednesday, August 23rd.

Jason Mraz came out as Bi-sexual in a poem to Billboard Magazine

In 2018, Mraz, who is also married, wrote a poem to Billboard Magazine where he came out as bisexual. He told the New York Times that “writing the line ‘I am bi your side’ was his way of coming out as bisexual?

“Well, yeah,” he says. “And I didn’t anticipate it. It kind of caught me by surprise, but I strive to continue to learn and grow and evolve and know myself.”

“It was tough,” he says of coming out. ’Cause not even my mom knew it, you know?” says Mraz. “And I realized that’s the struggle that people in the LGBT community have. It can be a very stressful secret that we carry.”

Mraz says his wife helped him understand his bisexuality by likening it to the Native American term “two spirit”

As for backlash, Jason says he has received, “absolutely zero. And I think that’s the cosmic joke. We carry around these secrets, and then once you say something, nobody cares.”
