British actor Lashana Lynch says she is happy to be one of the Jamaicans chosen to be part of the “Bob Marley: One Love” biopic, where she joins over 2000 Jamaican talents according to Paramount CEO Brian Robbins. She shared her thoughts in response to a World Music Views (WMV) post on Facebook, acknowledging the substantial investment by Paramount Pictures in Jamaican talent and community infrastructure for the production of the movie portraying aspects of Bob Marley’s life.
Lynch whose father is Jamaican was born in the U.K., she simply stated, “I am lucky to be one” acknowledging her Jamaican heritage.
Having played 007 becoming the first female 007 in the last James Bond movie, partly shot on location in Jamaica, the top billing actor co-stars in “Bob Marley: One Love” alongside Kingsley Ben-Adir (as Bob Marley), whose maternal Grandmother is from Trinidad and Tobago.
Although the film is about the life of Bob, deejay Spragga Benz took to social media to salute Rita Marley who Lynch plays as the true hero of the Marley family following the film’s premiere in Kingston, Jamaica on Tuesday.
“After watching Bob Marley One Love I have to say MY star of the story is @officialritamarley. The visionary that never lost sight of the goal, The warrior on the battlefield and The adhesive that kept everything from falling apart. SALUTE Nana Rita,” Spragga posted.
Rita Marley‘s musical career spans her involvement with The Wailers and The I Threes. Other members of the group, namely Judy Mowatt and Marcia Griffiths, are portrayed in the film by Naomi Cowan and Sevanna, respectively. Rita continued releasing music until 2006, collaborated with Fergie, and penned her memoir, “No Woman, No Cry.”
Furthermore, Rita played a pivotal role in transforming Bob Marley’s Hope Road home into the Bob Marley Museum, actively contributing to the family’s business ventures. Additionally, she founded the Rita Marley Foundation.
No figures have been disclosed yet regarding Lynch’s compensation for her role as the Matriarch of reggae. However, with an impressive portfolio including credits in box office hits like Captain Marvel, Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, The Marvels, James Bond No Time to Die, and The Woman King, Lashana Lynch does not come at a low cost – a fact not diminished by her pride in being Jamaican.
