Ms. Lauryn Hill is in Jamaica ahead of The Marley Family’s birthday celebration concert in honor of Joseph ‘Jo Mersa’ Marley, scheduled to take place in Nine Mile, St. Ann, Jamaica on Saturday, March 9, 2024.
Hill’s son YG Marley will be performing in Jamaica for the first time alongside his uncles Damian, Ky-Many and Stephen Marley. Jo Mersa, the first child of Stephen Marley and grandson of the iconic Bob Marley passed away reportedly due to acute asthma exacerbation in December 2022.
The Miseducation singer was captured in studio with Bugle, Jahshii and Kabaka Pyramid on Saturday ahead of the concert. The last time she was onnthe island was for a performance at Shaggy and Friends Charity concert in 2012.
This celebration, organized by the Marley Family, marks the second tribute to Jo Mersa’s legacy and precedes what would have been his 33rd birthday on March 12. This year’s line-up will also see Christopher Ellis, Lutan Fyah, Spragga Benz, Jahshii, Yohan Marley, Jessie Royal, Kabaka Pyramid and more.

Last year notable figures from the reggae and dancehall scene, as well as close friends of the Marley family, including Sizzla, Spragga Benz, and Capleton performed at the event.
Throughout his carer Jo Mersa Marley released the 2014 EP “Comfortable,” with songs like “Rock and Swing.
His second project “The “Eternal” EP is a musical explored his legacy as the Grandson and son of reggae legends Bob and Stephen Marley. The album showcases a blend of traditional reggae sounds with modern influences with stand out tracks “Guess Who’s Coming Home” and “Company.”
