Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry’s Last Album “King Perry” Set For Release Next Year

Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry‘s last studio album, “King Perry,” is set for release on February 2nd via False Idols. The 12-track album is owed by the single “100lbs of Summer” featuring London R&B singer Greentea Peng.

The album’s other features include Tricky, Greentea Peng, Shaun Ryder, Fifi Rong, Marta, and Rose Waite. The songs were written and produced by Lee’s longtime collaborator Daniel Boyle who produced his 2014 Grammy -nominated Back at the Controls and 2018’s The Black Album in the months leading up to Perry’s passing at the age of 85 in 2021.

The final track, aptly titled “Goodbye,” showcases strings and piano by classical composer Hugo Bechstein, with Boyle noting that the lyrics reflect Perry’s contemplation about returning to infancy and being reborn. As the last song recorded, it holds a significant place in the album and Perry’s musical legacy.

Last year Trojan Records posthumously released a 109 track box set of Perry’s music spanning 63 years of Perry’s classics in CD and quadruple-vinyl formats, including a 50-page fully illustrated book, written by David Katz, Perry’s official biographer along with photos from photographer Adrian Boot.
