While the debate rages on about whether reggae and dancehall music are the same, Producer Dale “Dizzle” Virgo’s latest projects aims to add another layer to Jamaican music with “DubSoul”.
In a release Virgo says, “‘DubSoul’ is the newest sub-genre that promises to further change how you hear
sounds”.
The sound he says was created during the pandemic to create a new wave.
Virgo believes that the new sub-genre’s ‘staying power’ is its ability to tap into Dub, Reggae, Dancehall, Soul, and
other sounds from many other genres.
Although its development took place during the lockdowns, Virgo says early examples of DubSoul can be found on Gyptian’s 2010 single, “Mama Bawl”,.
The 7 track instrumental project, “DubSoul Beat Tape Vol. 1” on DZL Records is the first in a series of “DubSoul” music as he aims to bring the sub-genre internationally.
Virgo has an extensive discography that ranges from songs with Rihanna and Drake, to Ce’cile and Chronixx.
