Machel Montano Earns His First-Ever No. 1 Song in Jamaica on YouTube

Trinidadian soca icon Machel Montano has made history by earning his first-ever No. 1 song in Jamaica on the Official YouTube Weekly Chart, with his latest hit “PARDY” skyrocketing to the top spot. The track debut at No. 9 last week marking his chart debut.

For the week ending January 30, 2025, “PARDY” surged eight places to secure the No. 1 position with 534,582 streams, an impressive increase of over 309,000 streams from the previous week.

“PARDY” dethroned previous chart-topper Jamal’s “Time”(#2 this week), which held the No. 1 spot for three weeks. Montano’s collaboration with Davido, “Fling It Up”, also debuts at No. 12 this week.

Other notable placements on the chart include:

  • Jamal’s “Ballandor” at No. 3 (21 weeks on chart, peaked at No. 2)
  • AYETIAN’s “Balance” at No. 4
  • RajahWild’s “Planet To Planet” at No. 5

Montano’s chart success signals a notable shift in Jamaican music consumption, as soca and Afrobeats continue to gain traction in the traditionally reggae and dancehall-dominated space. With collaborations bridging regional sounds and artists increasingly blending genres, 2025 could see more crossover hits dominating Jamaican playlists.

The Road Ahead

As Montano celebrates this historic feat, the question remains: Can “PARDY” hold the top spot for another week? With carnival season in full swing and soca’s infectious energy spreading worldwide, his momentum shows no signs of slowing down.
