Major Lazer’s “Peace Is The Mission” album is now certified Gold in the UK. The award was issued on Friday July 5, 2024 for surpassing sales of 100,000 album equivalent units by the British Phonographic Industry as measured by the Official Charts Company.
This is the group’s second Gold certification in the UK following their compilation project Major Lazer Essentials earning the award on August 28, 2021.
Peace Is The Mission released June 1, 2015 is Major Lazer’s third solo album and features the singles Lean On, with with DJ Snake and Danish singer MØ, released March 2, 2015, Powerful by Ellie Goulding featuring Jamaican reggae singer Tarrus Riley released on the same day as the album. The extended version of the album saw the release of the singles “Lost” with vocals from MØ and Light It Up featuring Fuse ODG and Nyla released November 15. The latter is now certified 3x Platinum in the UK (1,800,000), peaked at No. 7 on the UK single chart and No. 1 on the UK indie chart and helped Nyla become the first Jamaican female singer to be featured on a song surpassing 1 billion streams on Spotify.
Other local cuts like “Blaze Up The Fire” served as a breakout turntable hit for Chronixx. Jovi Rockwell was also featured on track 2 “Too Original.“
The album got further vocal and production inspiration from Jamaican talent on Track 13 on the extended version of the album. The song “Thunder & Lightning” (featuring Gent & Jawns) samples Clifton Gibbs and Selected Few’s ‘Brimstone and Fire’ produced by legendary Jamaican music impresario Coxsone Dodd of Studio One Records.
In the US, the album sold 28,000 units combined during its first week during its first week to debut at No. 12 on the Billboard 200 albums chart. Of the amount 15,822 were in pure copies and 6,786,376 in On-demand streams according to Neilson.I t also debuted at No. 5 in Canada selling 3500 units.
