Major Lazer Unveils ‘Nobody Move’ Featuring Vybz Kartel Referencing Yellowman’s 1980s Hit

Major Lazer’s debut album, Guns Don’t Kill People…Lazers Do, is getting a deluxe reissue to mark its 15th anniversary.

The 17 track set which will be released on November 15, 2024, includes remastered tracks and four bonus songs, including three previously unreleased songs—“Where’s The Daddy?” featuring M.I.A., “Pon de Streets,” and “Nobody Move” featuring Vybz Kartel. “Nobody Move” produced by Diplo, French production duo the Picard Brothers (Maxine and Clement) and German producer Philip Meckseper a.k.a Blender premiered on October 11 via Mad Decent Records along with an animated video directed by Major Lazer’s longtime visual collaborator, Ferry Gouw. The song lyrically nods to Yellowman’s 1984 dancehall classic “Nobody Move, Nobody Get Hurt,” which in turn draws inspiration from Toots and The Maytals’ iconic “54-46.” Set against a haunting reggae rhythm, it evokes the dreamy island vibe reminiscent of Major Lazer’s 2012 hit “Get Free.”

“‘Nobody Move’ is a long-lost gem newly unearthed from the Major Lazer vault, so I wanted the video to feel like a newly found VHS tape of an obscure ’80s cartoon T.V. show,” Ferry Gouw says in a statement. “The tape feels like someone has compiled their favorite moments from the show, a ‘Best Of’ of sorts, except these were recorded over footage of home videos and other T.V. shows and adverts. This video was also an homage to my very first video for Major Lazer for ‘Hold The Line,’ except this time I didn’t animate it on tracing paper but worked with the brilliant Andy Baker Studio to bring it to life.”

In addition to the digital release, a 2xLP vinyl reissue will be available for pre-order, featuring reimagined cover art by Gouw. The album will also be remastered in Dolby Atmos for Apple Music, creating an immersive audio experience.

The release comes as a tribute to the group’s transformative role in blending Caribbean sounds with global pop, a movement spearheaded by Diplo and Switch.

Their debut album brought together electronic, reggae, and dancehall influences and helped pave the way for Major Lazer’s future global success.
