A man was shot by Miami police this afternoon after using his black BMW to strike an officer in the crowded downtown area outside Bayfront Park.
World Music Views was on the scene and witnessed live the shocking chain of events that unfolded which looked like a Bad Boys Part 1 movie scene staring Will Smith as Mike Larry.
WMV camera crew and reporters saw the suspect accelerated the vehicle into an officer who was directing traffic outside the venue near Northeast 2nd Street and Biscayne Boulevard. The officer, one of 50 who were assigned to event, then jumped onto the hood of the moving BMW and fired two shots through the front windshield, striking the driver.
Moments later, the car swerved and crashed into the side of another vehicle. The wounded driver emerged from the vehicle, visibly bleeding, and stood in the middle of the road before collapsing as two officers trained their weapons on him.
Several police officers quickly rushed to the scene and attempted to resuscitate the man for over five minutes as a crowd gathered nearby.
The man who was shot was not a patron of the event, but after the explosions, dozens of patrons en route to the Best of the Best reggae concert, which was taking place nearby, moved closer to the scene, capturing the intense moment on camera with one person shouting “Him never have to kill the man.” Police quickly cordoned off the area and pushed the crowd back.
Despite the commotion, the concert continued, with soca music echoing through the downtown Miami skyscrapers. The event went on without a glitch with Wayne Wonder, Beres Hammond and Buju Banton closing the show.
However, the series of events cause a build up of traffic outside the venue from 5:00 pm into midnight.
The 21-year-old man was transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center in serious but stable condition.
Following the incident, Best Of the Best issued a statement saying they are aware of the shooting but assured the public that it had nothing to do with the event.
