Marcia Griffiths, Alison Hinds, Cedella Marley, and More to be Honored at the 2024 Caribbean Music Awards

New York City, New York

July 3 – The Caribbean Elite Group proudly announces the highest honors for the 2024 Caribbean Music Awards. These prestigious awards are determined through a rigorous selection process, taking into account the artists’ impact on the Caribbean music scene, their significant cultural contributions, and their overall career achievements.

This year, women have claimed all three top honors! The esteemed Marcia Griffiths will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award, Alison Hinds will be honored with the Elite Icon Award, and Cedella Marley will receive the Legacy Award. “The recognition of women in this year’s awards underscores the importance of their contributions to our culture and heritage. Their voices are vital to the vibrancy of Caribbean music,” said the Caribbean Elite Group.

Marcia Griffiths boasts a decades-spanning career, recognized for her critically acclaimed songs like “I Shall Sing” and “All My Life.” She holds the record for the highest-selling single by a female reggae singer with her rendition of “Electric Boogie” and is widely known as a vocalist for the I-Threes, who provided backing vocals for Bob Marley.

Alison Hinds, dubbed the “Queen of Soca,” has made a profound impact on the genre with hit singles such as “Fuluma” and “Roll It Gyal.” Her contributions have become integral to Caribbean carnivals worldwide.

Cedella Marley, a three-time Grammy winner and philanthropist, continues to enrich Caribbean culture through her work in music, fashion, arts, and social responsibility.

These prestigious honors recognize the robust achievements of each artist, with additional honors to be announced in the coming weeks.

Since its inception last year, the Caribbean Music Awards has celebrated the rich musical heritage of the Caribbean and honored the artists who have driven its evolution. The inaugural 2023 event saw Buju Banton receive the Humanitarian Award for his philanthropic efforts through the Buju Banton Foundation.

Kes delivered a heartwarming speech honoring Trinidadian artist David Rudder with the Elite Calypso Music Award, while Carel Pedre saluted the late Mikaben with the Kompa Music Award.

Morgan Heritage paid tribute to Beres Hammond with performances by Dexta Daps, Kranium, Toni-Ann Singh, and Romain Virgo, culminating in Hammond receiving the Elite Icon Award from V.P. Records president Chris Chin. DJ Stephen and Doug E. Fresh honored Machel Montano with a Lifetime Achievement Award.

Dexta Daps leads the 2024 Caribbean Music Awards nominations with eight outstanding nods. The celebration will culminate in a star-studded event on Thursday, August 29, at Kings Theatre, where music enthusiasts and industry insiders will gather to honor the extraordinary talents and tracks that have made this prestigious list.
