Following the Puerto Rican superstar’s playful Saturday Night Live monologue, U.S. Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) took to X (formerly Twitter) to demand that a law be passed making English the official language of the United States — before Bad Bunny takes the Super Bowl halftime stage in February.
The comment that sparked her outrage? During SNL, Bad Bunny delivered a few lines in Spanish before joking, “If you didn’t understand what I just said, you’ve got four months until the Super Bowl to learn.”
Greene, however, didn’t find it funny.
“Bad Bunny says America has 4 months to learn Spanish before his perverse unwanted performance at the Super Bowl halftime. It would be a good time to pass my bill to make English the official language of America,” she wrote on X, also accusing the NFL of promoting “demonic sexual performances.”
The NFL’s decision to book one of the world’s biggest artists — and one of the most streamed musicians on the planet — has drawn backlash from conservative circles. Figures like Danica Patrick and Tomi Lahren criticized the move, seemingly overlooking that Jennifer Lopez and Shakira performed partly in Spanish during the 2020 halftime show.
Lahren later faced ridicule after implying Bad Bunny was a foreigner, despite the fact that, as a Puerto Rican, he is a U.S. citizen by birth.
Meanwhile, former Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski joked that ICE agents would be “at the game,” referencing Bad Bunny’s past comments about fearing immigration crackdowns against his fans.
