Maroon 5’s cover Three Little Birds originally done by Bob Marley and The Wailers is certified Gold in Brazil. The certification was given by Pro Musica Brazil for sales and streams surpassing 20,000 units.
The cover the iconic song was released on June 9, 2018 as part of Hyundai’s campaign for the FIFA World Cup that year. In the visually striking music video, the band performs against a tropical backdrop, while CGI figures made of elements like leaves, fire, water, and metal dance along to the reggae classic. The band eventually morphs into these elements, symbolizing a connection with nature.
Three Little Birds was released as track 4 on Bob Marley’s Exodus and it has also become the first of the Reggae legend’s tracks to achieve triple platinum status in the UK, surpassing 1.8 million units according to the British Phonographic Industry on Friday September 6. The song first released June 3, 1977 is now certified Gold in Brazil for sales surpassing 20,000 units.
It peaked No. 17 on the UK Singles Chart and has now surpassed one billion streams on Spotify and is featured on Marley’s magnum opus compilation album Legend: The Best Of Bob Marley & The Wailers. The track has been widely used in various films and was celebrated with a new animated video in 2020 for Marley’s 75th birthday.
Another act to do a rendition of Three Little Birds was seven year old British Got Talent runner up Connie Talbot. She released it on her debut album “Over The Rainbow” in 2008 which peaked at No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Singles Sales Chart.
Stephen Marley had also used a remix the song for a previous Hyundai campaign along with Jason Bentley in 2013.
Most recently Jamaican singer Analeaux did a cover of the cultural classic for her debut album Alter Ego Vol. 1 titled “Don’t Worry (Three Little Birds).”
