Dancehall recording artist Masicka has released his first major label album, “Generation Of Kings,” on December 1, via Def Jam Recordings. Both versions of the album currently occupy the No. 1 and No. 2 spots on the U.S. Reggae iTunes Chart after only a few hours of its release pushing the chart’s magnum opus album “Legend” by Bob Marley and The Wailers to No. 3.
The impact of Masicka’s sophomore album goes beyond the music charts as currently the top trending searched term on Google in Jamaica is “Masicka’s Generations Of Kings.”
Born Javaun Fearon, the leading dancehall lyricist recruits a slew of collaborators to send home the messages of light, overcoming and success which permeate most of the songs on the album.
Lead by the singles “Tyrant” and “LimeLight,” the 17-track album features Popcaan and Dexta Daps on “Stars R Us” and “March On,” respectively. Spice, is featured on the track “WOW,” while Chronic Law and Reggae singer Lila Iké compliment on “Triump.”
A release from Masicka’s team stated that the expectations for the album is to find new markets for the Jamaican deejay. “Expanding the fan base and tapping into new markets is the aim for us, numbers will happen eventually.” Tp fulfill this, the draws for Afrobeats singer Fave and Haitian-American singer Fridayy on the tracks “Fight For Us” and “Wet.”
Producers on the album include Masicka himself as well as, Boi-1da, Atto Wallance, Moz ‘Mozeeko’ Hamm, and Donald ‘Razzy’ Chen, Mario ‘Dunw3ll’.
Masicka’s previous joint efforts with Popcaan include “Pain” from his debut album “438” and “UNDA DIRT” from Popcaan’s “FIXTAPE.” He also did “Vanish” and “Leader” with Dexta Daps on “438”.
“438” was the 5th most streamed album on Spotify in Jamaica this year according to data obtain from Spotify by WMV. The album was the only project by a Jamaican to make the top 10 list.
To celebrate the albums release Masicka will be performing in New York’s Amazura night club on Saturday December 2 and in Jamaica at the Grizzley’s Plantation Cove on December 16.
Meanwhile Aidonia’s independent album “Occupied Mind” released on Banga House Label enters No. 5 on the U.S. Reggae iTunes Chart. The 23 track set which only features Govana on the track “Thug Luv” is Aidonia;s first full length project since 2020’s “Dats A Trap” released on his 4th Gonna label.
