Today Monday May 6, the 2024 Met Gala will be held at The Metropolitan Music of Art in New York City.
This year’s theme is Garden Of Time.
The charity Gala has drawn inspiration from a myriad of sources over the years, from iconic designers to realms of spirituality and futurism. However, the genesis of this year’s theme lies in the 1962 short story, “The Garden of Time,” penned by J.G. Ballard.
The narrative unfolds around Count Axel and his consort, who find solace amidst the strains of Mozart within their opulent villa, encircled by a garden bedecked with crystal blooms. Yet, beyond the confines of their sanctuary, a tumultuous throng threatens their tranquility. To stave off the encroaching chaos, Axel embarks on a poignant journey, plucking the petals of his floral haven one by one, unraveling time itself.
Blah Blah Blah.
The sartorial decree for the 2024 Met Gala is encapsulated by “The Garden of Time,” a thematic ode to Ballard’s evocative title. While interpretations abound, anticipations soar for ensembles inspired by verdant foliage, blossoms, and botanical wonders.
Florals at the Met Gala? An innovation bound to captivate.

Karol G and Anitta are set to add some more latin flavor but we all know that the world is looking to see what Rihanna will be wearing after making several show stopping carpet crushing appearance over the years.
Rihanna’s iconic 2015 Met Gala dress by Chinese designer Guo Pei, is still etched in peoples minds even though the Barbadian billionaire initially felt apprehensive about wearing it.
âPeople are gonna laugh at me,â she recalled to Glamour feeling as she approached the red carpet in the extravagant gown. âI remember being so scared to get out of that car because I felt like, âIâm doing too much.â I was driving past the red carpet and I was just seeing gowns.â
âI was like, âOh my God, Iâm a clown, people are gonna laugh at me. This is too much.â I thought that. I circled like three times, Iâm not even joking. Finally it was like, Whatever, let’s just go,â she recounted to Access.
Despite her initial doubts, Rihanna’s bold choice paid off, as the dress became a cultural phenomenon and left an indelible mark on fashion history. However, she revealed that wearing the dress required careful planning and coordination.
âThe choreography of getting in the car and getting out, we had to choreograph it. Who sits at the door, where does the coat go, where do I sit,” she explained.
Away from the red carpet, Rihanna is now gearing up for the release of Fenty Skin, and she’s been actively promoting the importance of skincare, particularly emphasizing the necessity of SPF for people of all skin tones.
âI think the biggest misconception with SPF, in particular, is that Black people donât need it, and as a woman of color, Iâm here to say thatâs a lie,â she asserted. âYou donât think about the parts of your body that are exposed to the sun, like your hands. Driving your carâon the steering wheelâthose are things that age really quickly, but theyâre so exposed. SPF is for everyone and every day.â
