Miley Cyrus’ “Party in the U.S.A.” is now 17× Platinum certification in the United States more than 17 years after its original release.

According to the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), the Hollywood Records single has sold 17 million units in streams and sales as of September 4, 2026.

The new certification comes less than eight months after the song reached 16× Platinum on January 22, 2026, and just over a year after it was certified 15× Platinum on July 4, 2025.

Released August 4, 2009,“Party in the U.S.A.” became one of the defining hits of Cyrus’ early career and peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100. It debuted with more than 226,000 digital downloads and ultimately spent 28 weeks on the chart.

Its latest certification also represents an enormous journey from its first RIAA award. “Party in the U.S.A.” was initially certified Gold on January 13, 2010. More than 16 years later, it now stands at 17× Platinum.

Streaming gives the 2009 smash a new generation

Rather than settling into catalog status, “Party in the U.S.A.” has continued to attract a huge streaming audience.

The track is currently generating more than one million Spotify streams per day and has surpassed 2.2 billion global streams on the platform, according to figures obtained by WMV. It currently ranks as Cyrus’ second-most-streamed song on Spotify.

“Party in the U.S.A.” was ranked as the seventh-best-selling digital single of 2009 in the United States, and by July 2017 had sold nearly six million downloads in the country. Its 17× Platinum status now makes it Hollywood Records’ highest-certified single to date and is the highest-certified non-holiday song by a female artist in the United States.

Beyond the United States, “Party in the U.S.A.” became an international hit, reaching No. 3 in Canada and New Zealand, No. 6 in Australia and the Top 10 in several other markets.

Originally written by Dr. Luke, Jessie J and Claude Kelly, the song was first conceived with Jessie J in mind before being reworked for Cyrus. It became the lead single from Cyrus’ 2009 EP The Time of Our Lives.
