NBA Youngboy Do Second ‘Jamaican Song’: Remix Skillibeng’s ‘Whap Whap’

Last October, music producer Johny Wonder said that Skillibeng’s entry into music will bridge the gap between Hip Hop and dancehall.

It seems that statement is inching closer to becoming a reality as his latest single Whap Whap was honored with a hip hop remix by top streaming artist NBA Youngboy.

Skillibeng’s original Whap Whap was released a month ago to mixed reviews in dancehall circles including Tu Lox who chastised the rising artists. The song however quickly went to number 1 on World Music Views YouTube chart on March 18.

Since the “Brick Pon Brick” artist came on the scene a few years ago he has scored several international features with his catchy, slow rhymes including a remix with Nicki Minaj.

Bobby Shmurda and platinum selling British rapper, dancehall DJ Stefflon Don have used his slangs and punchlines for their own songs. Minaj’s remix of Crocodile Teeth helped him to score a billboard hot 100 chart hit peaking at 100.

With the original Whap Whap surpassing 6.2 million streams , the NBA Young Boy remix released a day ago may add to Skillibeng’s international clout.

Hip Hop mogul Birdman, says he believes NBA Young Boy might be the biggest rapper.

NBA Young Boy was YouTube‘s Top Music Artists in the United States for more than 101 weeks between 2018-2019, which made him the most-watched musician across all genres.

He was also the 9th best selling artist on the 2019 Billboard Mid-Year Charts and was seventh in the top ten artists ranked by on-demand audio streams without dropping a project in the first six months of 2019.

The Cash Money Records artist and Skillibeng share similar musical style and signature aggressive punch and high energy. They are also both known for consistently releasing music with guntalk, however YoungBoy has released a total of twenty-six studio albums, EP’s, and mixtapes since 2015.

His 2:33-minutes long remix featured on the Wizical Beatz-produced riddim, (which has since been pulled), narrated the heinous lifestyle posited on the original track. YBNA also added some Jamaican patois in parts of the song – rapping in verses, “Boop Boop, gunsmoke my town, police dem a come, stupid bloodcla@t…” while playing heavily on the hook, “whap whap whap whap whap whap whap.”

Last year the 22 year old rapper also recorded Jamaican Talk where he also flexed his Jamaican muscle. The song was never officially released but similar to Whap Whap fans uploaded it to YouTube.
