Nicki Minaj joins Beyoncé, Lizzo and Tems as the only women to hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2022.

Super Freaky Girl by Nicki Minaj debuts at number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 this week. This song made it with an accumulative sales report of 89,000 in pure sales, 21.1 million streams and 4.6 million airplays. Nicki Minaj becomes the first female rapper to debut a solo song at #1 in the 21st century and she joins joins Beyoncé, Lizzo and Tems as the only women to hit #1 on Hot 100 in 2022. 

The late summer bop also earns the Young Money artist the biggest US unit sales debut for a song by a lead female artist in 2022.

Nicki Minaj, Lauren Hill

This is Queens native’s first US No. 1 without a collab and her third overall. The last time a rapper debuted at No. 1 with a solo single was Lauryn Hill’s classic “Doo Wop (That Thing)” in 1998.

Beyoncé’s “Break My Soul,” was the no. 1 song for the last two weeks (Aug. 13 and 20) and just before that Lizzo’s “About Damn Time,” landed at No. 1 on July 30 and Aug. 6. It is also the first time this century, three solo Black female artists have reached #1 on the Hot 100 back to back.

 

Tems Future feature with Drake “I’ll Wait For You” made its debut May 10. 

 

As Nicki gets the good news about her Billboard debut and gears up this week to host the VMAs and collect her Michael Jackson Video Vanguard award she tweeted out to her 25 million fans, “You did it.”
