This marks the Clarendon native’s third BritCertified Silver single following Cheerleader (Felix Jaehn Remix) which is now 5x Platinum (2,400,000) and I Found A Girl by Vamps.
“Hula Hoop” was released on August 28, 2015, as the second single from OMI’s debut studio album Me 4 U. Written by OMI (Omar Pasley), Karl Wolf, Jenson Vaughan, Matt James, and Frank Buelles, the track is a vibrant fusion of reggae-pop and tropical house.
Matt James and Frank Buelles produced the song, continuing the formula that made “Cheerleader” a global sensation.
The music video for “Hula Hoop” was released on September 16, 2015, and plays on a fun, beachy theme. It begins with a radio station in Miami announcing a competition to find the perfect girl to feature in the video. Set against the backdrop of sunny shores, a group of women competes for the role, showcasing their best dance moves with a playful, carefree energy that mirrors the song’s mood. it has surpassed 100 million views on YouTube.
“Hula Hoop” peaked at No. 75 in the UK Official Albums Chart and No.16 on the Bubbling Under Hot 100. In Australia, the song reached number 8 on the ARIA Charts, while in Austria, it climbed to number 7. Other notable chart placements include number 12 in Germany, number 3 in Sweden, and number 19 in Canada. It also charted in countries like Norway, Poland, and South Africa, showing its widespread appeal.
