Peter Anthony Morgan popularly known as Peetah Morgan of the reggae group Morgan Heritage has died at age 46. A statement released by the band’s official social media account confirmed his death on Sunday February 25, 2024.
Peetah was the lead singer for the reggae band known for his distinct vocals on tracks like “Tell Me How Come” and “Don’t Haffi Dread.”
An additional statement shared via a publicist said, “With deep love in our hearts, the @morganheritage family is saddened to share that our cherished husband, father, son, brother, and the renowned lead singer of Morgan Heritage, Peter Morgan, passed on today, February 25th, 2024. May Jah beckon us towards redemption, for love remains our sole guiding light.

Morgan Heritage was formed in 1994, and the group made their debut appearance at Reggae Sunsplash in Jamaica, followed by signing with MCA and releasing their first album, “Miracles,” the same year. Initially leaning towards a more pop-influenced sound, the album marked their entry into the music scene.
After the release, the family relocated to Denroy’s homeland, Jamaica, where they collaborated with reggae producers Bobby Dixon and Lloyd James, leading to subsequent albums like “Protect Us Jah” (1997), “One Calling” (1998), and “Don’t Haffi Dread” (1999), showcasing a spiritually inclined direction.
They embarked on tours, released compilation albums, and captured live performances on albums like “Live in Europe!” during their 2000 tour with Peetah Morgan as lead singer.
Continuing their musical journey, Morgan Heritage released “More Teachings…” (2001), followed by the exploration of Europe and participation in events like the Vans Warped Tour.
Their discography expanded with “Three in One” (2003), “Full Circle” (2005), and “Mission In Progress” (2008), featuring singles like “Faithful” and “Raid Rootz Dance.”
After individual projects, they regrouped in 2012, releasing “The Return” and hinting at a forthcoming album, eventually unveiling “Here Come the Kings” (2013) and embarking on a European tour.
Morgan Heritage won Best Reggae Album at the Grammy Awards for “Strictly Roots” in 2016. That album has sold 18,000 album equivalent units (Sales: 10K) according to Luminage. They were again nominated for “Avrakedabra” in 2018.
Morgan Heritage’s latest album, “The Homeland,” with Peetah at the lead, features collaborations with various artists such as Shaggy, Beenie Man, Popcaan, Shatta Wale, Ice Queen Cleo, Youssou N’Dour, Mádé Kuti, Alpha Blondy, Otile Brown, Eddy Kenzo, Busy Signal and Capleton.
The group was on a mission to expand the group’s global reach, according to a release, particularly bridging the gap between Africa and Jamaica says band member Gramps Morgan.
