Popcaan‘s second studio album “Forever” released on Mixpak Records turns 5 today. The career defining album released on July 20, 2018 has so far sold over its lifetime 122,000 units of streams and sales in the US according to data proving to WMV by Luminate. Of that amount, the album has earned 183 million on-demand streams and sold 7000 pure copies. The album has so far earned 94 million streams on Spotify and is the Unruly artist’s second album to reach that milestone.
“Forever” was executive produced by Andrew “Dre Skull” Hershey with additional production from NotNice, Bless Beats, Markus Records and Mini E5. Only Nigerian singer Davido was a guest artist on the track “Dun Rich”. A music video for the song was directed by Meji Alabi which features scenes from Nigeria’s culture and beaches.
Popcaan was the headliner at Reggae Sumfest in 2018 on the day of the album’s release after which he toured the U.K. and Canada to support the project. Complex, Noisy and Esquire magazines all named the album among the 50 best albums of 2018.
NME Magazine gave the album four stars and called Popcaan, “Sean Paul’s natural successor, a star with the charisma and pop chops to make dancehall a viable commercial force in America.”
Although Popcaan is yet to set foot in America, “Forever” peaked at No. 171 on the US Billboard 200 chart and No. 2 on the Reggae Albums chart. It also peaked at No. 21 and No. 6 on the Independent Albums chart and the Heatseekers albums chart respectively.
