Popcaan’s Great Is He (Deluxe) Hits 100 Million Spotify Streams as Where We Come From Celebrates Anniversary Release

Popcaan’s Great Is He (Deluxe) album has surpassed 100 million streams on Spotify. The extended version of the Unruly deejay’s fifth studio album was released on March 31, 2023 with eight additional tracks, including Millionz, Celebrate (featuring Black Sherif), and Bend It Over, which maintain the album’s original themes of wealth, success, and relationships.

It is Popcaan’s third album to reach the Spotify milestone following FIXTAPE (2020) and Forever (2018).

Great Is He was originally released on January 27, 2023, under Drake’s OVO Sound. It spent 10-weeks on the Billboard Reggae Albums chart, peaking at No. 3 selling 3,200 units in its first week, with 300 pure sales according to Luminate.

The album re-entered the Billboard Reggae Albums chart at No. 8 the week of April 4 following after the release of its deluxe edition.

Standout tracks on the project include Next To Me featuring Miss World 2020 ToniAnn Singh, Abooyoyahh (featuring Burna Boy), and Set It.

While Great Is He didn’t chart on the Billboard 200, it peaked at No. 14 on the Heatseekers Albums chart.

Popcaan and producer Dre Skull are celebrating the 10th anniversary of Where We Come From, Popcaan’s 2014 debut studio album which is his fifth most streamed album on Spotify with 69 million streams.  The pair released a 16 track deluxe edition featuring three unreleased tracks on disc 2 released via Mixpak Records.

Popcaan and Dre Skull began collaborating during sessions for Vybz Kartel’s Kingston Story, and their partnership flourished, resulting in tracks that combined Popcaan’s melodic vulnerability with Dre Skull’s genre-pushing production. The album’s standout tracks, like “Everything Nice” and the title track.

Where We Come From was the genesis of Popcaan becoming global dancehall icon, accounting for 130,000 of his over one career million units sold in the US. Dre Skull credits the album with demonstrating the power of albums to elevate dancehall artists internationally, while Popcaan calls it a timeless classic that still resonates a decade later. Popcaan posted on Instagram, “I just want to show my appreciation to the almighty God and everyone who’s been supporting me and my music all these years. I’m happy that I’m able to celebrate the 10 years anniversary of my debut album with you all. 🙏🏿🙏🏿 it’s a lifestyle and a lifetime moment.”
