Dancehall artist Popcaan’s Billboard charting song “Twist & Turn,” featuring Drake and PARTYNEXTDOOR, surpassed 100 million streams on Spotify as of Wednesday, August 21, 2024.
This marks Popcaan’s third track to reach the milestone and his first as a lead artist. For Drake, it’s his 252nd career track to cross 100 million streams, while for PARTYNEXTDOOR, it’s his 20th.
“Twist & Turn” is the lead single from Popcaan’s FIXTAPE album, released under Drake’s OVO Sound and Warner Records (2020). Produced by dvsn’s Nineteen85 (known for “Too Good” and “One Dance”), the track was the first collaboration between Popcaan and Drake.
The song peaked at No. 47 on the Canadian Hot 100 during the week of August 22, 2020, and spent two weeks on the chart. It also climbed to No. 19 on the Billboard Bubbling Under Hot 100. In the UK, it’s certified Silver by the British Phonographic Industry, with sales surpassing 200,000 units.
On “Twist & Turn,” Drake adopts a patois-infused delivery reminiscent of his “One Dance” era, while PARTYNEXTDOOR taps into his Jamaican roots, complementing Popcaan’s effortless verse, which reflects on past relationships. Drake even gives a shoutout to Popcaan’s sister Squid in the line, “Squid tell me yuh waan fix tings.” Pitchfork described the track as a “sun-kissed, sway-friendly collaboration” that would have been a summer hit in any normal year.
FIXTAPE was Popcaan’s second release and first album under OVO Sound/Warner and peaked at No. 94 on the Billboard 200 chart during the week of August 22, 2020. The album has sold more than 100,000 units since its released according to data provided to WMV by Luminate. Popcaan also collaborated with Drake on another track from the album, “ALL I NEED,” which features a more laid-back vibe, with Drake singing about sentimental themes. Both songs were teased on Instagram Live before the album’s release.
