World Music Views recently sat down with Eunice “Vicky” Rashford, the vibrant founder of Portland Paradise Weekend, for an exclusive conversation about her upcoming event series set to take over Jamaica’s most naturally beautiful parish from August 1–3, 2025.
Originally from Portland, Vicky has been with Delta Airlines for 18 years, currently serving as a Conflict Resolution Officer—a role well-suited to her warm personality and calm demeanor. But beyond her corporate life, she’s on a mission to showcase the heart and soul of her hometown through a multi-event experience rooted in cultural immersion, community impact, and premium entertainment.
A Weekend Like No Other
Portland Paradise Weekend is not just another party series. “It’s designed to attract discerning travelers seeking cultural experiences,” says Vicky. The weekend features adventure, entertainment, and giving back.
The lineup for 2025 includes:
Son Up Breakfast Party (August 1): Held at the marina, this premier event blends beach vibes with Jamaican sunrise energy and top-tier entertainment. Party Tours: A guided adventure through Portland’s hidden gems. Groovin’ (August 2): A nostalgic ‘80s, ‘90s, and 2000s throwback jam on the water—Vicky calls it a retro party with a twist. Port Fest (August 3): A family-friendly cultural festival with art, craft, poetry, live drumming, and educational labs. It’s also where the event’s charity arm shines—back-to-school supplies are distributed to children in need. Frosted All-White Soirée (August 3 night): The crown jewel of the weekend, hosted at the luxurious Bentley Beach GJam, featuring The Collective fashion show by both local and international designers.
Fashion Meets Philanthropy
“The Collective” fashion show will spotlight designers from Portland, including former Mission Catwalk contestants, alongside U.S.-based fashion talent like Atlanta’s Mr. Williams. The soirée will be hosted by fashion personality Debbie Bissoon, promising a stylish and scenic night by the sea.
Giving Back With Purpose
Portland Paradise Weekend is more than just indulgence—it’s impactful. Last year, over 300 students received school bags filled with supplies. This year’s donations will go to Seaside Primary and Fair Prospect Primary and Infant School. Every child who shows up at Port Fest will receive a kit filled with practical items for the new school year.
Food, Fun, and Full Vibes
Expect Jamaican finger foods with a modern twist: ackee and saltfish empanadas, jerk skewers, soups, and more—all included in the ticket price.
Community Support & Tourism Boost
While Vicky is still awaiting confirmation for this year’s sponsorship from the Jamaica Tourist Board, they’ve supported the event since 2016. Local hotels such as GJam, Great Huts, Mockingbird Hill, and Geejam Eco Resort are offering discounts to guests who mention the event code “PPW.”
The People’s Event
“This has become a people’s event in the parish,” Vicky proudly notes. With a sold-out history and growing popularity, Portland Paradise Weekend is positioning itself as a premier cultural event on Jamaica’s Independence weekend calendar.
