Jean-Andre Lowell Lawrence A.K.A JLL is a multitalented producer whose most recent contribution to Drake’s Certified Lover Boy Album. Drake declined the nominations from the Recording Academy but if the albums had won Best Hip Hop album this year, he would have been eligible to apply for a certificate for his contribution from the Recording Academy.
Not bad for the young producer who is yet to meet Drake.
JLL has the example of Stephen McGregor who was a songwriter and producer on Drake’s 6 time platinum, Grammy nominated Album Of The Year ‘Views’ as he continues to make his name as a producer.
He sees his qualification for a Grammy nod as one more foot in the door as he basks in the glory of Champagne Poetry.
What was your contribution to Drake’s Certified Lover Boy album?
I produced the track he sampled for the first half of “Champagne Poetry”.
Is this your first credit on a Grammy nominated album?
Yes it is!
Do you know what you will personally get from the academy of Drake’s album wins in Best Hip Hop album?
I may possibly get a certification.
What are your thoughts on this year’s reggae category?
It’s a rounded choice of nominations and I think a lot of Jamaican creatives now know what it feels to be nominated!
Who do you think will win Best Reggae album?
I personally would love Jesse Royal to win but I’m not sure who may be the actual winner.
