Veteran dancehall deejay Red Rat says he and his team are awaiting a court date for their case against Greensleeves Publishing Ltd to be heard.
The deejay who’s being represented by New York-based attorney Merrick Dammar is suing the distribution company for filing a lawsuit against international artiste Chris Brown without his consent.
“We are waiting on a date from the courts. To be honest, I am not really focused on that. I’m just leaving everything up to God,”
he told World Music Views exclusively.
He was also tight lipped about the details of the lawsuit being filed.
In July, Greensleeves was suing Chris Brown in the amount of $1.5M for allegedly infringing on the copyright of Red Rat’s 1997 hit Tight Up Skirt. Greensleeves claims that Brown had used the same hook on the song in his 2017 single Privacy.
He said: “Everything is on the table, anything is possible at this time, we’re considering all legal remedies at this point. We’re gonna ensure that Red Rat’s rights are protected to the fullest so everything that is possible legally and is viable will be pursued.” Per Dancehall Mag
Greensleeves Publishing Ltd was acquired by VP Records in 2008 for a reported 4 million Euros.
Jamaican singjay Samantha J had also sampled the song in her 2013 single Tight Skirt.
Red Rat whose given name is Wallace Wilson is also known for other tracks like Shelly-Ann, Dwayne, Big Man Little Youth and Bizzi Blazzi.
