The complete lineup for the 2024 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival has been unveiled and noticeably absent is the presence of a Jamaican act as was the case on former years. Additionally, the only reggae act on the lineup is American born YG Marley, the son of Rohan Marley and Lauryn Hill who is set to perform on April 14 and 21. YG joined his mother on stage for a cameo performance last year at the 25th anniversary Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill Tour.
The annual Coachella Music and Arts Festival, held at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California, is a renowned rock festival showcasing music across multiple stages.
Originally conceived as a two-day event, the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival debuted in October 1999 with headliners Beck and Rage Against the Machine, drawing over 25,000 attendees. Despite the initial financial challenges and the shadow of the troubled Woodstock ’99, the organizers regrouped, taking a year off and returning in April 2001 as a one-day festival. This move also aimed to avoid the intense desert heat.
After the successful revival, Coachella resumed its two-day format the following April and later expanded to a three-day event in 2010. The festival continued to evolve, turning into a six-day spectacle across two consecutive weekends in 2012.
The year’s event is headlined this year by Lana Del Rey, Tyler, the Creator, and Doja Cat, across two weekends: April 12-14 and 19-21.
On Fridays, performances will include Lana Del Rey, Peso Pluma, Lil Uzi Vert, Justice, Deftones, Peggy Gou, Young Miko, Bizarrap, Skepta, Ken Carson, Faye Webster, Tinashe, Brittany Howard, Chappel Roan, Chlöe, and Black Country, New Road.
Saturdays will feature Tyler, the Creator, alongside Blur, Ice Spice, Sublime, Bleachers, Grimes, Jon Batiste, Orbital, Kevin Abstract, the Blessed Madonna, Oneohtrix Point Never, Bar Italia, Erika de Casier, Militarie Gun, and Mandy, Indiana.
Sundays will showcase Doja Cat, J Balvin, Khruangbin, Lil Yachty, Victoria Monét, Reneé Rapp, Bebe Rexha, Coi Leray, Taking Back Sunday, Boy Harsher, Jockstrap, Mdou Moctar, and Feeble Little Horse.
Ska-Rock band No Doubt is set to make a comeback performance after a 10 year hiatus.
The group shared a video playfully announcing that they should do a show on Instagram recently,
“Wow, that is the band right there,” Kanal says, before Stefani asks, “What are we doing? Why do we not hang out?”
“We should hang out,” Kanal says, with Young adding, “Maybe we should do a show?”
Dumont jokes that he has to “think about it,” before they all agree they should “do a show.”
“Let’s do a show,” Stefani ends the video.
The organizers say they are aiming for a smoother experience after past years’ last-minute cancellations by Kanye West and Frank Ocean.
Among the reggae and dancehall acts to perform at Coachella in the past include Jimmy Cliff, Damian Marley, Chronixx, Koffee, Protoje and last year Shenseea was the only dancehall act on stage.
As reggae is snubbed this year at the major music festival, ATEEZ(에이티즈) will make history as the first K-Pop boy band to perform at Coachella.
ATEEZ, consisting of members Hongjoong, Seongwha, Yunho, Yeosang, San, Mingi, Wooyoung, and Jongho, are celebrating their fifth year as a band with a significant achievement. Riding the success of their album, “THE WORLD EP. FIN: WILL,” which secured their first number one position on the US Billboard 200 chart. The eight-member group joins esteemed peers, including K-pop girl group Le Sserafim, on the lineup for the April 12th and 19th dates headlined by Lana Del Rey, with K-rock band The Rose scheduled for the April 14th and 21st slots.
Alongside their new release, fans can anticipate performances of favorites from their discography such as “De Ja Vu,” “HALAZIA,” “Bouncy,” and the iconic “Guerrilla.” If the latter is performed, American ATINY (ATEEZ’s fandom) will undoubtedly echo Yunho’s call to ‘Make some noise,’ igniting a thunderous fan-chant of ‘break the wall,’ a spectacle known to reverberate far beyond the arenas they perform in.
The desert crowd at Coachella is in for a treat, with Jongho’s impossibly high notes, San’s explosive dancing, and Mingi’s lightning-fast staccato rapping delivering a high-energy performance that will set the stage perfectly for Lana Del Rey’s dreamy set as the sun sets over the desert.
In 2023 Coachella had notable performances from Jai Paul’s live debut and surprise appearances by the Weeknd, Billie Eilish, and Tyler, the Creator.
