After scoring a series of seminal hits from the Major Lazer “Start A Fyah” Mixtape such as “Smile Jamaica” and “Here Comes Trouble”, Chronixx has toured the United Kingdom and the US with his Zincfence Redemption Band. One of the few artists from Jamaica to insists on never leaving his band when performing, as he redefines Reggae’s success metrics.
His debut EP, Dread & Terrible, was released in April 2014, and peaked at number 1 on the Billboard Top Reggae Albums chart.
Before releasing an album he scored a performance on the Jimmy Fallon show and pulled a huge crowd at his Central Park concert. Subsequently the EP reached number one on the Billboard Digital Reggae Singles chart according to data provided to World Music Views by Luminate formerly MRC Data. The EP spent 42 consecutive weeks in the top 10 of the Top Reggae Albums chart.
The Island Records founder praised Chronixx at the launch Rebel Salute in December 2016, Blackwell said, “I love Chronixx. I think Chronixx is an extraordinary talent. He has great rhyming, natural phrasing. That is a gift.”
Chronixx’s music has since been in some of the most popular films and television shows around the world in the last 5 years. With movie directors and studios clamoring for his unique sound to score their scenes, here are a few of his notable placements.
Smile Jamaica
Smile Jamaica is featured at the beginning of Netflix’s Manifest, season 1 episode 16. The song sets the tone for the Jamaican beach scene. The series was originally aired on NBC in 2019, and has now become a popular binge on the international streaming network. The series is about a group of passengers on route from Jamaica who apparently transcended time by the time they landed.
Smile Jamaica is also a feature song on the Netflix U.K. series Top Boy Season 3, Episode 1 (Revamped Season 1) titled “Bruk Up ” originally aired
Blaze Up The Fire
His break out single Blaze Up The Fire, with Major Lazer from their project “Peace Is The Mission was featured in S1 · Episodes 4 and 6 of the Drama series “
Blaze Up The Fire was also part of the Soundtrack for The Festival, a 2018 British comedy film directed by Iain Morris and co-written by Keith Akushie and Joe Parham. The film stars Joe Thomas, Hannah Tointon, Emma Rigby, Hammed Animashaun and Claudia O’Doherty.
Parts of the film were filmed at Leeds festival with actual festival goers being used as extras in the large crowd scenes. Filming also took place in fields near to the village of Compton Martin in Somerset, U.K. On Rotten Tomatoes, the film has an approval rating of 81% based on reviews from 16 critics, with an average score of 5.9/10.
Majesty
In 2016, Chronixx’s “Majesty” was on the soundtrack of Usain Bolt’s documentary “I am Bolt,” released by Universal Pictures.
The film follows the sprinting legend as he prepares to go for gold at the 2016 Rio Olympics. Competing in the 100m and 200m races, Bolt attempts to make history by winning these events for a record third time.
Chronixx performed a Live version of Majesty on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon
S2017 · E34 · which featured Hugh Jackman, Mandy Moore, and Chronixx ·as the live performer on 24 February 2017. His Album Chronology on which the song appears was released in July of that year. He previously performed “Here Comes Trouble” on the show in 2014 and in 2020 he performed “Cool As The Breeze.”
Who Knows
Chonixx’s “Who knows”with Protoje from the latter’s Ancient Future album is featured on the video game Forza Horizon 4 in 2018. The racing video game is developed by Playground Games and published by Microsoft Studios. It was released on 2 October 2018 on Xbox One and Microsoft Windows after being announced at Xbox’s E3 2018 conference. An enhanced version of the game was released on Xbox Series X/S on 10 November 2020.
Wounds With Little Simz
A little known Chronixx feature with Little Simz, Wounds was featured in the documentary film The Grey Area. It’s a feature-length documentary film by Noga Ashkenazi about the lives of inmates at the Iowa Correctional Institution for Women in Mitchellville, Iowa. The film documents an eight-week feminism class taught by student volunteers from Grinnell College
Wounds was also on the soundtrack of Long Slow Exhale S1 · E2 · Full Court first aired 4 Apr 2022.
