Billboard chart topping artist Rema has one more reason to celebrate, as his debut album “Rave & Roses” is now certified Platinum in Canada for selling 80,000 units in that country.
“Rave & Roses” hit the top 20 on weekly charts in 2022-2023 around the world. It reached peak positions of #189 on the Belgian Albums chart, #15 on the Canadian Albums chart, #13 on the Dutch Albums chart, #31 on the French Albums chart, #18 on the Nigerian Albums chart, #81 on the US Billboard 200, and #2 on the US World Albums chart.
In terms of year-end performance, the album ranked at position #104 on the French Albums chart for 2022.
The album is also Gold certified in France (50,000 units sales and streams), Gold in Poland (10,000 units in sales and streams), and Platinum Switzerland (20,000 units in sales and streams).
The ground breaking project released March 25, 2022 spawns three singles including “Soundgasm” which became a U.K. underground hit, triggering a series of remixes including one with Stefflon Don titled “Steffgasm“.
The follow up track is Rema’s Billboard smash hit Calm Down the original and a bonus track version featuring Selena Gomez which peaked at No. 1 on the Canadian Hot 100 (No. 4 this week). The track has spent 47 weeks on the chart. Calm Down has also sent 44 weeks on the US Billboard Hot 100, peaking at No. 3.
The song is certified 2x Platinum in the US for selling 2,000,000 units.
The third single on the album was FYN featuring British rapper AJ Tracey. Other features on the album include Chris Brown on the track 6, “Time Of Affection,” 6lack on the track “Hold Me,” and French singer Yseult on “Wine” track 15.
The extended 22 track Raves & Roses Ultra has 6 bonus tracks and was released April 2023. It has surpassed 1.5 billion streams on Spotify.
Rema, real name Divine Ikubor is credited as ushering the Afrowave genre and he told NME Magazine “I tapped into a different mind space for this album, though. Learning through personal experiences, I knew I had been pushed into a different space compared to where I was before. As I’m currently at the forefront of a musical generation, I know the album is going to have an impact.”
