NBC 6 reported that singer Sean Kingston’s mother, popularly knows as ‘Mama Kingston’ was arrested during a Thursday morning raid at a Southwest Ranches mansion rented by the entertainer, officials said.
Broward Sheriff’s deputies and Davie Police SWAT members executed a search warrant at the expansive mansion on Southwest 178th Avenue. Officials later confirmed that the singer’s mother, 61-year-old Janice Turner, was taken into custody on multiple fraud and theft charges.
Aerial footage from Chopper 6 showed Turner in handcuffs being placed in the back of a BSO cruiser.
The raid is reportedly connected to a lawsuit filed against Kingston for allegedly not paying for purchased items. “He likes having bling, he likes showing off, he’s a showman,” said attorney Dennis Card. “My client has a $150,000 television sound system in there, about $1 million worth of watches, and an $80,000 custom bed. This is organized, systematic fraud.”
Kingston, 34, known for his 2007 breakout debut 2x Platinum single “Beautiful Girls,” has collaborated with stars such as Justin Bieber and Soulja Boy. Card described Kingston’s alleged fraudulent behavior: “He lures people using his celebrity to have them release items without paying, then he simply never pays.”
During the raid, a line of luxury cars was seen parked outside the 7-bedroom, 15,000-square-foot mansion, which last sold for $2.25 million in 2021. “He’s 100 percent a scammer, currently on felony probation for trafficking in stolen property, with judgments against him for over $1 million in unpaid watches,” Card added.
Authorities have not confirmed if Kingston, who is reportedly out of town, is facing any charges.
Turner operates an Instagram page called “Mama Kingston Kitchen,” where she sells her own brand of sauce, featuring her celebrity son. Federal court records indicate that Turner pled guilty in January 2006 to four counts of filing false loan applications and one count of bank fraud involving $132,000 in stolen funds, for which she was ordered to repay. She was sentenced to sixteen months in prison followed by five years of supervised release.
Kingston suffered serious injuries in May 2011 when the personal watercraft he was riding struck the bridge connecting Palm Island with the MacArthur Causeway.
