Rihanna To Revisit Songs Already Recorded For R9: “I Want Things to Be Timeless, Just Like ‘Diamonds'”

Fenty Beauty mogul Rihanna says she is ready to hit the studio again and she is inspired by her recent Diamond certifications.

She was speaking to the press at the launch of her Fenty Hair line of products on Monday and said,

“It really was a testament to my fans and the quality of music, just a reminder of how I need to approach my next album. I want things to be timeless, just like ‘Diamonds’… The way my fans have continued to listen to my music without putting music out.”

‘Diamonds’ released September 26, 2012 became certified Diamond by the Recording Industry Association Of America (RIAA) on April 22, 2024. The song peaked at No. 1 on the US Billboard hot 100 along with 19 other countries.

She said she thinks about her Grandmother every-time she performs the song. “It’s connected to my grandma (Dolly), I literally think of her every single time I perform that.”

Just last week Rihanna became the most certified Diamond female artist in RIAA history after her singles “Umbrella” (featuring Jay-Z), “Work” (featuring Drake), and “Needed Me” reached the 10,000,000 milestone.

Relating to R9, which she had promised would be a reggae inspired album, the Barbadian billionaire tells ET, “I have been working on the album for so long that I kinda just put all that stuff aside. And now, I’m prepared to go back into the studio. Now I’m prepared. So I’m gonna start.”

She added, “Starting over, but I don’t want to neglect the songs that I have. I want to actually go back and listen to stuff with new ears with my new perspective and see what [songs] I’m still in love with.”

Several Jamaican acts were reported to have worked on R9 including dancehall producer Rvssian who confirmed that he had sent her songs.

Rihanna also joke that her new born babies with rapper A$AP Rocky has inspired the fact that she hasn’t been in the studio to complete the album.
