Released September 26, 2012, it was the second single from her seventh studio album “Unapologetic” written by SIA and producers Benny Blanco and Stargate.
The Fenty Beauty Queen now becomes the second Caribbean artist to have a solo single certified Diamond in the US following Nicky Minaj’s Super Bass, which is certified 12x Platinum as of March 29, 2024.

“Diamonds” soared to the top of the music charts in over twenty countries, including the the US Billboards Hot 100, marking Rihanna’s twelfth number-one single.
Across the pond, “Diamonds” became Rihanna’s seventh number-one song on the UK Singles Chart, and is ferried three-times platinum certification by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) for selling 1,800,000 units in streams and sales. Other certifications for “Diamonds” around the world include 6× Platinum in Australia (420,000) and Sweeden (240,000). It is certified it Gold in Austria(15,000), Canada (40,000) and Greece (1 million streams).
France reported a total of (310,000) while “Diamonds” is 4× Platinum in Germany (1,200,000), Italy (120,000),Switzerland (120,000) and Denmark (7,200,000). 2× Platinum for New Zealand (30,000) and it is Diamond (250,000). Portugal and Spain both recognized it with 2× Platinum (40,000 and 120,000 respectively). .
The music video for the song directed by Anthony Mandler has surpassed 2.3 billion views on YouTube since its November 8, 2012 release. With a figure intertwined with Rihanna’s arm, reminiscent of her former flame, Chris Brown, the images are set against the backdrop of four elemental landscapes—earth, air, water, and fire.
