Rihanna’s Good Girl Gone Bad Surpasses ANTI as Her Highest RIAA Certified Album, Reaching 7x Platinum

Nearly 18 years after its release on Good Girl Gone Bad, Rihanna’s “Breakin’ Dishes” has been certified Platinum, following a sudden surge in popularity. The track debuted on the Billboard Global 200 at No. 195 and the Billboard Global Excl. US at No. 181 in January, giving the Barbadian billionaire her 12th placement on Billboard Global Excl. US and 18th on the Global 200.

Despite never being an official single, “Breakin’ Dishes” has sold one million units in sales and streaming equivalents as of March 4, 2025, according to the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). Its resurgence also marks Rihanna’s first new entry on these global charts in over a year.

Meanwhile, Good Girl Gone Bad released May 21, 2007, has now been certified 7× Platinum (7 million units) by the RIAA, making it Rihanna’s highest-certified album, surpassing Anti, which previously held the record.

It was a pivotal album in her career, marking her transition to a pop superstar. The album’s success was driven by hits like “Umbrella,” which featured Jay-Z, and tracks such as “Don’t Stop the Music” and “Hate That I Love You.” It received generally favorable reviews, with praise for its blend of Europop, R&B, and Caribbean influences, though some critics felt it lacked consistency. The album’s commercial performance was outstanding, reaching multi-platinum certifications in several countries, and it was her best-selling album in the US by 2015.

The album was a chart-topping success, reaching No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and staying there for over a month. It also hit the top of the charts in several countries, including the UK, Australia, and Canada. “Umbrella” became one of Rihanna’s biggest hits, reaching No. 1 in 13 countries, and was a top-charting song on the Billboard Hot 100 for seven weeks. Other singles from the album, such as “Don’t Stop the Music” and “Shut Up and Drive,” also charted highly, with Good Girl Gone Bad becoming one of the best-selling albums of the year.

Rihanna’s Good Girl Gone Bad Tour (2007–09) was her first worldwide tour, performing across five continents. It was a visually striking performance, with S&M-inspired outfits, but received mixed reviews. A live DVD of the tour, Good Girl Gone Bad Live, was released in 2008.

The album earned numerous accolades, including Grammy Award nominations and a win for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration for “Umbrella.” It was a cultural milestone, solidifying Rihanna as a global superstar, known for her seductive stage persona and influence on pop music.
