Roc Nation CEO Desiree Perez is facing a federal lawsuit from her daughter, Demoree Hadley, who alleges that Perez orchestrated her unlawful psychiatric detention and falsely accused her husband, Javon Hadley, of domestic abuse in an effort to destroy their marriage. Filed May 9, 2025, in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida, the verified complaint claims Perez used “unlawful means” to have her daughter committed under Florida’s Baker Act, extending an initial 36-hour hold to more than two weeks.

According to the suit, Perez “orchestrated a false psychiatric emergency” with the help of family members, doctors, and healthcare facilities. Bodycam footage shows Broward Sheriff’s deputies confronting Hadley, telling her, “No, you cannot [go home]. Because you’re being Baker Acted.” Despite her protests, she was taken to Memorial Regional Hospital. Hadley recalls being told by a doctor, “We received a call from your family that you tried to OD the night before,” a claim she firmly denies.

The evaluating doctor, Dr. Daniel Bober, cited three sources claiming Hadley was “acting psychotic” and had “threatened to overdose.” In video footage, Bober tells her, “I spoke to your mom. I spoke to your aunt.” But Hadley insists the allegations were fabricated. Her attorney, Hilton Napoleon II, said: “I haven’t seen anything in my entire 20 years of practicing law that it is so clear that someone did something wrong.”

Hadley further alleges that Perez used both the Baker and Marchman Acts, claiming she was suicidal and abusing drugs, to justify the confinement. But hospital drug tests were negative. “They told me your tox screens came out negative. And I go, ‘I know. I don’t do drugs,’” she said. A subsequent hair follicle test showed no substance use over the past three months.

Hadley was later transferred to Life Skills in Deerfield Beach, where Dr. Bober is medical director, under a court order obtained by Perez via the Marchman Act. The lawsuit states the doctor who approved the Baker Act hold “had never examined or met [her] prior to the hospitalization.” She was discharged on April 8 after Perez voluntarily dropped the case.

In addition to the allegations involving her own confinement, Hadley claims Perez also tried to sever her marriage by filing a separate lawsuit accusing Javon Hadley of abuse. Javon has denied the allegations, and the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office declined to pursue the case. In a closeout memo, prosecutors reportedly stated that “Perez provided false statements to law enforcement,” contributing to wrongful arrests.

The lawsuit names Perez, Roc Nation, South Broward Hospital, Odyssey Behavioral Healthcare, and others, alleging a coordinated campaign to “isolate and discredit” Hadley. In a TikTok live session referenced in the court documents, Javon Hadley stated, “This is not just about family drama. This is about abuse of power.”

Perez denies any wrongdoing. In her own court filing, she claims her actions were motivated by fear that her daughter was suicidal and abusing prescription drugs. “I will always protect my daughter, even if she hates me for it,” Perez wrote.

Hadley, however, sees it differently: “They Baker Acted me based on complete lies,” she said in her court filing. “Money, influence, and power should not be something that’s used or abused to hurt innocent people.”
