Romain Virgo’s “The Gentle Man” First Week Album Sales Are In

Romain Virgo‘s fourth studio album, “The Gentle Man,” has sold 1000 combined album equivalent units in the U.S., according to data provided exclusively to World Music Views by Billboard sales tracker Luminate. Of that amount, the VP Records release amassed 100 units in pure sales and 1.5 million official on-demand audio and video streams in the U.S.

Released on March 1, 2024, the first-week sales figure for “The Gentle Man” was not enough to make the sales-driven Billboard Reggae Albums chart. However, since its release, the album peaked at No. 8 on the iTunes Reggae Albums chart and top ten on Apple Music outside the U.S., including #2 in Grenada and Jamaica, #6 in Saint Kitts and Nevis, and #7 in Seychelles.

Collaborations on the album include Patoranking, Masicka, and Capleton, with production from Donovan ‘Doncorleon’ Bennett and Phillip ‘Winta’ James. Virgo launched the album with three sold-out shows in St. Ann, Montego Bay, and St. Elizabeth, with plans to tour the U.K. in the coming months.

Romain’s last album, “Love Sick,” released in 2018, peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard Reggae album chart. The “Love Doctor” singer took to Instagram in 2021, posing with his Billboard plaque, saying, “In a few years from now, I will tell Emma and Raina that it took me 10 years, 2 EPs, and 3 Albums before I got a #1 Debut on the Billboard Reggae Chart, in the year 2018.”

His sophomore album “The System” released in 2012 peaked at No. 6 on the U.S. Billboard Reggae Chart while his 2015 EP “Lifted” reached No. 7.

“The Gentle Man” marks his final release under VP Records, and in 2021, Romain promised that after his next album, he would show what the future of music looks like.

Meanwhile, on the Billboard Reggae Albums chart this week, “Wisdom” by Stick Figure re-enters the chart after a brief one-week hiatus. Stick all scoring “World On Fire” and “Set In Stone” at numbers 5 and 6 respectively.

“Legend: The Best Of Bob Marley & The Wailers” remains at No. 1 for 2017 weeks. The EP Bob Marley: One Love (Music Inspired By Film) moves down to No. 9, while the “Bob Marley” One Love (Soundtrack)” moves down to No. 10.

“Best Of Shaggy: Boombastick Collection” is at No. 2. Sean Paul’s Dutty Classics Collection is at No. 3, and “Dutty Rock” is at No. 7.

UB40’s Greatest Hits is at No. 4.
