Sean “Diddy” Combs will host the 2022 Billboard Music Awards, the entertainment mogul and MRC announced on Friday. Diddy took to Instagram Akeem from Coming To America style to declare his return to the entertainment industry as ringmaster of the BBMAs. The awards show will be held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on May 15 and will be broadcast at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on NBC, in addition to streaming live on Peacock.
“This will be unlike any awards show – I’m bringing the love and setting the frequency at an all-time high,” said Combs. “The Billboard Music Awards truly represent the artists and where music is today, so I’m excited to curate the biggest live performances and surprises. The world has to tune in to see.”
Diddy will double as host and executive producer alongside Robert Deaton and he says, “A’int not party like a Diddy party and we gonna come through with one of the most disruptive lineups in music history.”
MRC Live & Alternative will produce the show.
This year’s show marks 25 years since Combs, an accomplished producer, designer and philanthropist, won his first BBMA in 1997, for his album “No Way Out.” Combs is currently working on his seventh studio album, more than 15 years since his last solo album, “Press Play” debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 Chart in 2006. He last appeared on the BBMA stage in 2017, paying tribute to the late Notorious B.I.G. on what would have been his 45th birthday.
Honoree at this year’s show hip-hop legend Mary J. Blige and will feature performances from Megan Thee Stallion, Burna Boy, Latto, Rauw Alejandro and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Additional performers and presenters will be announced in the coming weeks.
Combs’ is the consumate show man who always has a finger on the pulse of pop culture. His debut album, No Way Out (1997), has been certified seven times platinum. The album was followed by Forever (1999), The Saga Continues…, (2001) and Press Play (2006), all of which were commercially successful.
The Making The Band producer has won three Grammy Awards and two MTV Video Music Awards.
His Forbes estimated net worth is north of $740 million. In addition to his clothing line Sean John
which he recently repurchased, he owns Revolt TV and has shares in Ciroc beverages.
