Sean Paul announced a release date for his 8th solo studio album to a jam packed audience during his show in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia last Friday.
The Island Records artist also told Billboard that Scorcha is coming May 27 and with a witty response stated the reason for the album’s title.
“The album is called Scorcha because I’m a hot boy and I’m still fresh and I keep on doing my thing.”
More seriously he said, “I put out excellence, I’m not just doing this for a buck. There are times where I need to present an album and get some money from the label. [But] I’m doing this from the perspective of that euphoria that I want you to feel.”
Originally scheduled for last year, Scorcha was pushed back twice after he had promised to release one independent and one International album in the same year. His 2021 dancehall album Live N Livin is nominated for Best Reggae Album.
So far three songs have been released from Scorcha. In August he released Only Fans featuring Ty Dolla Sign, then his follow up collab with Sia Dynamite in October and this month he linked up with America singer Pia Mia for How We Do It.
The Dutty Cup singer’s singles “Get Busy” and “Temperature” topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart and most of his albums have been nominated for the Grammy’s Best Reggae Album, with Dutty Rock winning the award in 2004. Paul has also been featured in many other singles including chart-toppers “Baby Boy” with Beyoncé, “What About Us” by The Saturdays, “Rockabye” by Clean Bandit and “Cheap Thrills” by Sia.
