Dancehall artist Sean Paul’s upcoming release, “Bring It,” offers a fresh take on the classic Showtime Riddim. This single, crafted under his Dutty Rock Productions label, is a modern reimagining of the beloved dancehall beat produced by Dave Kelly released in 1997.
The Showtime Riddim, is a cornerstone of Jamaican music recognized by Rolling Stone as one of the “25 Riddims That Have Defined Jamaican Music,” with songs like Bounty Killer’s “Eagle and the Hawk” and Beenie Man’s “Hypocrites.”
The riddim also features “Bashment Party” by Shaggy and Rayvon, and Spragga Benz’s “We No Like.”
Sean Paul, whose admiration for the Showtime Riddim was well-documented in a 2022 interview with Vibe Magazine, expressed his long-held desire to voice on the track. Now, in 2024, that wish comes to fruition with “Bring It,” a track that both honors the golden era of 90s dancehall and introduces a new wave of energy to the classic sound.
Honoring a Legacy
Dave Kelly’s contribution to the dancehall genre is unparalleled, with riddims like Pepperseed, Joy Ride, and Showtime solidifying his legacy as one of the most influential producers in music history. By reworking the Showtime Riddim, Dutty Rock Productions not only pays homage to Kelly’s innovative spirit but also underscores his lasting impact on contemporary artists and producers worldwide.
“Bring It” is a testament to Sean Paul’s signature style, blending nostalgic elements with a contemporary edge. The track is poised to become a party anthem, inviting listeners to celebrate the enduring appeal of dancehall music. With its vibrant beats and fresh take on a classic riddim, “Bring It” promises to deliver a thrilling musical experience that will captivate both long-time fans and new listeners alike.
