Sean Paul is once again making history on Spotify after his 2016 single No Lie Ft. Dua Lipa hit one billion streams on Friday.

The dancehall-Pop collab previously surpassed the one billion views on YouTube , six years after its release.  It’s the Jamaican superstar’s first song as a lead artist to enter a billion streams on Spotify.

The 50-year-old Grammy Award winner told WMV in an interview last year April that he was happy about the global impact his music continue to have with audiences.

“Feels good to know that you can do songs and they just grow and grow and grow,” he said. Cause when No Lie first came out that was a dope song. Nuff people loved it. It went on a lot of likkle streaming vibes and it just kept going. So awesome!” he stated

Last year February “No Lie” earned double platinum certification in the United Kingdom by the British Phonographic Industry after it surpassed 1,200,000 units in the country.

This track also holds a special place in Sean’s career, as it is his longest-running single on the U.K. Singles chart, spending an impressive 30 weeks and peaking at No. 11. “No Lie” also made its mark globally, reaching No. 184 on the Billboard Global 200 chart and No. 113 on the Billboard Global Excl. US chart.

Produced by Sermstyle and Phillip Kembo, “No Lie” served as the lead single on Sean Paul’s EP “Mad Love The Prequel,” released in 2018 through SPJ Productions Ltd in partnership with Island Records. The track was later included in the super deluxe reissue of Dua Lipa’s RIAA Platinum debut studio album, “Dua Lipa: Complete Edition,” in 2018.

The collaboration came to fruition after Sean Paul, Emily Warren, and Andrew Jackson wrote “No Lie,” and someone in Sean Paul’s management team suggested approaching Dua Lipa. Upon hearing Dua Lipa’s demo, Sean knew that her vocals were the perfect fit for the track

Sean Paul‘s debut EP “Mad Love: The Prequel” released by SJ Productions and Island Records has sold 350,000 units in sales and on demand streams in the US according to data obtain by WMV from Billboard sales trackers Luminate. The album has 1.6 billion streams on Spotify globally.

Sean Paul now joins Omi as the only artists born in Jamaican with lead songs surpassing 1 billion plays on Spotify.
